Re: Sims 4 Double Clicking Issue

I've just downloaded Sims 4 to my Macbook Pro and Origin installed/works fine, the Sims 4 installed and launches fine but as soon as I get into the game, I have to double click EVERYTHING. A single click doesn't register at all. Does anybody know why this might be?

Hi! Nothing has changed at all - the trackpad works perfectly fine outside of the game, even in Origin, it's just as soon as The Sims 4 is open that the double clicking issue starts.

  • Did you figure out how to fix this? I have the same problem right now

If you close out of the game and bring it back up the sound should come on and you should be able to single click everything. Also try going to the menu in the top right and go to game options and change the display type to windowed instead of full screen.
  • These suggestions do nothing.  I have the double-click issue immediately following the upgrade to High Sierra from Sierra (now running 10.13.2)  Have repaired game.  Multiple restarts of origin and of machine.

  • I have fixed this issue.  The only solution was to delete the game -- in special way noted below (From Bluebellflora, from another thread), then re-download the game and all add-ins using Origin:

    1. In your Applications folder right click on the Sims 4 app and select Show Package Contents.
    2. Navigate to Contents > Mac OS.
    3. Right click on The Sims 4 and select Move to Trash. Don't drag the file as it will only move an alias and leave the original in place. If there is another file in the folder, The Sims 4.par, leave it alone.
    4. Now open Origin, click on The Sims 4 in your Games Library and click on Download.

UPDATE:  THIS DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE!! only worked for 12 hours.  Double-click and no music issue has returned.

EA, ARE YOU LISTENING?  THIS IS A MAJOR BUG!!!

I'm having the exact same issue right now and it's really getting on my nerves. At first I thought it might just be my computer since it is a bit small and running such a big game like Sims 4 on it might be a bit of a challenge, but my one click works perfectly fine outside of Sims 4 even when the game is pulled up/on. If anyone has found a solution, please let me know

Oh wait mine fixed itself while I was off of the game (while it was still running - aka while I was on other apps). I have a 13 inch MacBook from like I want to say the early 2010s?? With the newest update and I think that it's called High Sierra. I guess for me it was just a temporary glitch that needed to work itself out idk whatever it is I'm just happy it fixed itself

I have this issue too, except when I tried to get into the game, my mouse wouldn't move.

I reset my MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015, High Sierra) and now Sims 4 won't even open.

  • I dont know if this is just my laptop, but i put the game into windowed mode and then it was fixed. After that I switched it to full screen and it was fixed.

I have the same problem, it's so annoying. 2016 MBP with High Sierra. However, I was able to "fix" it by first opening Sims 4 to the game menu, and then going into my System Preferences > Trackpad. After looking through my trackpad settings (I didn't make any changes) when I went back into Sims 4, the double-click issue was gone! So weird.

Same here, everything on my computer was fine and literally just updated moments ago; it's only in the game where I have to double click. Hoping for a quick resolution.

It happens to me quite often. I load the game, and there's the double clicking, then I quit, reload and it's ok. Then another session, here we go again, quit, reload, and it's ok again. I'm on an iMac, late 2015, macOS High Sierra 10.13.2, 2,8 Ghz Intel Core i5. 8GB ram, Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536 MB.

  • Having the same problem! We will see if going to window mode, into another application & then back again fixes it.

Hello, I found I had the exact same problem with my Macbook Air on the Sims 4. The easy solution is to just open another tab or the internet (like minimize the Sims 4) and keep chrome open for a bit, then just open the game back up where you left it. It should be fixed. It has nothing to do with Trackpad settings if this happens frequently after every time you update the game.

For anyone having this issue, I found that simply restarting the game restored the sound and the single click option again

I had this same exact problem so many times! I realised it was because I had the Spotify app open and playing music in the background outside of the Sims 4 via Origin. So I “quit” every open application (without even exiting the Sims) and thankfully when I went back in this problem had totally disappeared. I then reopened Spotify to play music and the problem was gone. It would seem you can only have other apps open whilst playing the Sims 4 if you open them ONCE YOU HAVE BEGUN THE GAME. I hope this makes sense and I hope this works for everyone else 🙂
