Re: Sims 4 won't launch after doing everything

@806b200dcb8b947a

You haven't tried everything. Move the entire Sims 4 folder to the desktop then launch the game so a new one is created. What happens?

  • I actually have done that LOL I guess I forgot to mention it. When my game wasn't working a couple days ago I did that and it worked for one night and then went back to not working at all. I'll try it again though! Is there anything else you have in mind besides that?

I've also noticed, when my expansion packs are redownloading it always gets stuck on city living, should I also remove that EP from my folders and re install it? Or should I do that with all of my expansion packs?

I'm going to remove the sims 4 folder now I'll let you know asap if its working

After it worked for one night with the clean folder, did you move content from your previous folder back into it? City Living should work, it is installed despite getting stuck?
  • @Bluebellflora Yeah I moved all of my mods back into the mods folder as well as saves/tray and it seemed to be fine.. (minus an elevator not being in one of the apartments in city living but thats not the main issue lol) but it is definitely installed because it doesn't say download or add to queue, it just automatically starts redownloading and then getting stuck. I took out sims 4 folder and restarted origin, and removed everything from my queue so it wouldn't get stuck again, but now my actual sims game is stuck on loading :/ so I can't check to see if it works. Also, I really appreciate you for reaching out so soon I've been trouble shooting for three days straight and really appreciate this help

    Thanks, very helpful info 🙂

For the not launching issue - you moved your Mods, Library items and saves back into the new Sims 4 folder and it stopped working again, the issue is in one of those folders. I would start with a new Sims 4 folder again but only move your saves back. Play for a couple of days and see if it stops launching again. If it seems fine, move the Tray files back and again play for a couple of days. If all is still well, add your Mods back in small batches, testing the game after adding each batch.

For the City Living issue - try manually resetting Origin https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/
  • @Bluebellflora So, my saves/tray/mods are actually not in my sims 4 folder at all right now and it still won't launch. My sims 4 game started to stop at the finalizing stage as well, after taking all of my expansions out of queue. So I just uninstalled origin the hard way, and reinstalled and it seemed to fix the sims not fully downloading. However, now when I try to play it won't load at all and it gets stuck with a color wheel.. So there's no mods/saves/tray in it at all right now and it's still not working ☹️ I wish the mods were the answer lol. The other day when I was trying to get it work and it actually started working I was putting my mods back one folder at a time (I have them organized by date) so I could find out which mods were giving me trouble, and took out all of the ones that were having issues. I'm sorry if this is getting annoying I really just don't know what to do at this point :/

I have a 2023 MacBook Air, it's updated to 14.2.1 Sonoma, that I just updated to today.

I have uninstalled origin (the hard way), reinstalled it,

taken out the sims 4 folder and tried booting up the game again to get a new folder

    I've cleared my cache

my game does not need an update

    removed my CC/tray/save files

    restarted my computer

    repaired my game

removed my Expansion pack folders to try and redownload them

My tray/save/cc folders are still not in game, but every time I repair the game and it says it's ready to play it doesn't load up at all and I get a color wheel saying the game is not responding. I also end up having one of my expansion packs get stuck at the repair stage or finalizing stage and when I try to X out of it it just freezes.

I've been having issues for three days now.

Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or if I am missing a step. I feel like I'm being difficult on here or not explaining fully but I'm not good with computers and feel like I've tried as much as possible without more knowledge on this kind of stuff. Please 😢 help lol

It's not just the Mods, Saves and Tray folders that are the problem. The localthumbcache file can store corrupted data. Maybe your settings are too high for your Mac, these settings are stored in the Options.ini file. Maybe it's a combination of corrupted Mods AND saves AND a corrupted Lot in your Tray folder. This is why you should start with a clean Sims 4 folder and gradually add your content back, as explained.

I get it is frustrating and tedious but troubleshooting has to be methodical. There is most likely something in your Sims 4 user data causing this issue. Please, start with a new Sims 4 folder again. Forget about all of your previous data for now, pretend like you are loading the game for the first time. Does it load to the main menu? If not, how far into the load process does it get before hanging/crashing once you have pressed Play in Origin?
  • @Bluebellflora With all of my saves/mods/tray removed it doesn't load anything, I just get stuck with a color wheel 10 seconds after I click play ☹️ I've cleared the cache prior to deleting the old sims 4 file when I was having issues with this a few days ago and it seemed to work but now since its a fresh new file I don't think I have anything in cache to delete, especially since I removed all of my old gameplay. Its now saying I don't have enough hard drive space, so I just bought an external hard drive and hopefully that will help with this :\ I appreciate your patience with this.

Please remove the Sims 4 folder again and then attempt to load the game, not just the Saves, Mods and Tray folders. This is the only way to properly test a clean game.

Restart your Mac. That will clean virtual memory which will be contributing to low internal storage space.
  • Hi! I ended up messing around with my iCloud as well as purchasing an external hard drive and so far I've been able to open the game and I was able to put back my mods/trays/save. I did remove the sims 4 file from electronic arts and restarted without it so I could make a new one. Thank you so much for helping out!
