Sims 4 bouncing on dock and then closing

Hi,

I suddenly started to experience issues in the game, walk animations were not working, the game would freeze when trying to load into the world with a family, and then suddenly the game stopped opening. It only bounces on the dock then closes immediately and opens Origin.

These are my specs:

  • Operating System: Sonoma 14.1.1
  • Mac model: MacBook Pro
  • Processor: M2
  • Memory (RAM): 8GB
  1. Are you attempting to play the normal version of the game or the Legacy Edition? Normal version.
  2. Are you running any antivirus? Yes (nothing has been detected as malicious in my manual scans).
  3. Have you tried to repair the game in Origin? Right click on the game in My Games and select Repair Game. Yes.
  4. Do you use CC/Mods? If so, have you tried removing them and seeing if that fixes your problem? Yes and yes.
  5. How much storage is available on your internal drive? About This Mac > Storage 29 GB (I use a 1TB external drive for my games, so that is what The Sims 4 is currently installed on, not my internal drive).

I want to give a list of things I have tried and have not worked:

  • Removing all mods
  • Completely deleting my mods, saves, and tray folders
  • Moving the Sims 4 folder to a different location
  • Deleting my Sims 4 folder
  • Running The Sims 4 from the icon directly instead of from Origin
  • Reinstalling the game
  • Completely uninstalling Origin and reinstalling
  • Using the Origin reset tool
  • Changing the fullscreen option in the options.ini file
  • Changing the v-sync option in the options.ini file
  • Uninstalling The Sims and reinstalling it on my internal drive
  • Repairing the game
  • Updating my MacOS version
  • Right-clicking on The Sims icon, clicking "Show Package Contents", then going into the MacOS folder and right-clicking "The Sims 4" and clicking Move to Bin as suggested here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612394#M161

The ONLY thing that has worked, is creating a new User Admin account on my computer and running the game from there, but I want to run the game from the User account I always use. I would greatly appreciate any help in getting this to work! Thank you in advance ❤️

Thanks 🙂 It's strange that your second account seems to mirror your usual account but the game won't launch. You could try reinstalling the OS which would fix any corrupted files or broken links, hopefully. Unless you wipe the machine, it will simply reinstall over the top of your current installation but you should do a backup anyway if you choose to do this.

Lastly, I strongly recommend you uninstall CleanMyMac. Apps that claim to clean up your system can sometimes erroneously remove files they shouldn't, sometimes even destabilising the operating system in the process. 3rd party 'clean up' apps really aren't needed and seem to aim towards ex-Windows users who rely on them so heavily. macOS is a very efficient OS.
