Sims 4 won’t launch from EA app

This problem started yesterday. When clicking play in the EA app, the window minimises as if sims is about to launch, but the immediately the app comes back up. Sims will not launch at all.

I have restarted my Mac and the EA app. I tried repairing the game in the manage button. I have cleared the cache twice. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I also tried moving my game file and starting the game.

none of these have worked. I tried contacting EA and they could only suggest things I had already tried and now they have no other fixes.

does anyone here have any suggestions? Thanks.

    It's a MacBook Air (M1, 2020), running macOS Sonoma 14.6.1

I have checked for updates and my software is the most recent available.

My storage is about half used.  I had downloaded a couple new kits the day before it stopped working again, but I used it that day with no problems.

I have tried the game repair a couple of times.

Starting to feel like it might be a bigger problem - I have noticed that a few posts are on here with the same problem since moving from Origin to the EA app, so maybe it's that?

I am honestly at a point of giving up on it though - it is so frustrating.

It may well be a bigger problem but pinpointing the cause is difficult. It isn't affecting every Mac user.

I have the game installed on 4 different Macs and it works on all of them - different models, different OSs all now using EA App.

I play a vanilla game with no 3rd party content and have all the Packs and Kits to date.

    I'm in the UK.

I do not run antivirus or have a firewall enabled. I do have a pi-hole on my home network.

The game and EA App have Full Disk Access on all the machines.

Explaining all this in case you think your setup differs in any relevant way 🙂
  • I have been having the same problem for a few weeks where when opening the Sims 4 from EA app, the game bounces in the dock, doesn't open and EA app opens back up.

I have tried all the fixes, which don't work for a couple of days, but then will work.  Got it fixed earlier today, and now the problem is back again already.

This is the text from my last crash file if that helps anybody:

This is with no mods and my save files removed.  I have also repaired the game through the app and done a manual repair twice.  I have plenty of memory on my MacBook, and the game and my IOS are up to date.

Any help massively appreciated as I am about to just give up and forget the 100's of hours and £'s I've put in this game.  Thanks.

Has there been any luck with this? EA support have been horrible and entirely unhelpful.

Hi. No, I’ve had no real answers. Tried all the usual fixes which sometimes help, but then the problem comes back a couple days later. EA have said they cannot help any further.

I can even have it work in the morning and then I’ll go to play again that evening and it won’t open.

I wonder if your issue is memory related because it works in the morning but then later that day it doesn’t. When it happens next time can you restart your Mac then try to launch it?

Hi. Restarting doesn’t make any difference I’m afraid. Also, sometimes it won’t work in the morning and then will work later in the day. I’ve not been able to pinpoint anything that is causing it.

in case it was a memory problem I have moved all my other files to an external hard drive but that hasn’t made any difference either.

honestly I feel like I’ll just keep plodding on with it and use it when I can. I definitely won’t be buying any more packs though as it’s too disappointing to not be able to play them.

No, I meant memory as in RAM, not storage.

It sounds like something on your Mac is causing this as it’s so random. Set up a new user account on your Mac and try playing in that account. Don’t set up iCloud and don’t install or run anything apart from EA App and the game. Have the user account as clean as possible.
