Sulani perpetually overcast/too cloudy/has fog

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.62.67.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Island Living, Get To Work, Magic Realm, Vintage Glamour, Laundry Day, Movie Hangout
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? In Sulani/Island Living
What happens when the bug occurs? Sulani is perpetually shrouded in fog. If I try to sunbathe, it says hat it is too overcast. I cannot zoom out to look too far to look at my sims or house because the cloud covers it.
What do you expect to see? Not fog. I expect my sims to be able to sunbathe and to be able to see the island when I zoom out.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

My roommate and I bought and downloaded Island Living two weeks ago. My islands are perpetually covered in fog. Hers are fine.

My sims can't sunbathe because it is overcast. If I take a picture, the fog makes everything hazy. The worst part is that I can hardly zoom out to look at my sims or my house build or the island because the clouds immediately cover the screen.

I have Island Living, Get To Work, Magic Realm, Vintage Glamour, Laundry Day, Movie Hangout. i do not have Seasons. I do not have any mods.

I have macOS Mojave Version 10.14.2

macbook air 2014

Processor

1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Graphics

Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

Memory

4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

  • @NIkkiNomoney Could you test if you have the same issue on a fresh save ?

Could you also post some pictures how that looks in your game ?

@crinrict It happens on every household I try to place Sulani, even after a fresh save. It has been a problem from the beginning. I thought that it was a part of the gameplay at first, except that my roommate does not have the same issue. We have all of the same packs, no Seasons and no mods. I've tried repairing the game and re-downloading all of my packs but those don't seem to have changed anything.

So I've included some screenshots from two different households from two different saves that show how the clouds get more prominent as I zoom out until it obscures the screen completely. It happens on every lot on every island. The last picture is of my sim swimming in the ocean and taking a picture of the island covered by the fog.

@NIkkiNomoney I'd say looks like a graphics issue but it's very odd that you can't sunbath.

Is your Sim an occult ? Is it the same for all Sims ?

I have no idea about the sunbathing thing but on the Mac side, can you please update Mojave in System Preferences to 10.14.6, your version is very out of date. See if that helps. Could you also post a screenshot of your in-game graphics settings.

Which Mac does your friend have and which OS are they running?

@Bluebellflora @crinrict I updated my computer and fiddled with the graphics and I think it's sort of fixed.

My graphics settings were on low. If I switch it over to medium or low medium then the clouds go away (I also assume the clouds are gone in high and ultra but didn't test those). The clouds come back if I switch it back to low.

My sims can now sunbathe on the beach on beach towels but my mermaid sim cannot sunbathe in the water because "it is too cloudy".

So it's not fully fixed but is sort of fixed.

I haven't been able to fix the "too cloudy to sunbathe" option for the mermaids in the ocean but bumping up the graphics to at least medium did at least fix my visual issues.
