The Sims 3 Unknown Error Occurred and Nothings working!

Okay so I seem to be having the same problem a lot of fellow macs users are having with the sims 3 and 4 on Mac. The base game worked alright without any problems but after installing all the expansions and stuff packs I get the unknown error occurred message popping up. I looked around on here and elsewhere to find a solution and have followed all the solutions out here but none of them are working. I've cleared the sims 3 off my mac and Origin and re installed it all but to no avail. I noticed some were saying it's down to late night but I've not installed that yet. Only just installed world adventures and high tech stuff but the stupid error comes up again.

I'm not happy with this and don't see why it won't run on my MacBook. I've never had this problem before with it and it even worked after updating to OS Sierra, so why now?  These are the specs for my MacBook:

 Model Name: MacBook Pro

  Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,2

  Processor Name: Intel Core i5

  Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 3 MB

  Memory: 8 GB

  Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s

  Boot ROM Version: MBP61.005A.B00

  SMC Version (system): 1.58f17

  Serial Number (system): W80207N7AGU

  Hardware UUID: 710B8289-75A8-5CF3-A325-FE5C1140A1CE

  Sudden Motion Sensor:

  State: Enabled

I'm not very happy with this at all and I don't want excuses! I want to an answer! I want to play the Sims 3 on my MacBook and I don't want to be sent in circles!

Again I've never had a problem with this before when playing the Sims 3 on my MacBook. I don't know whether it's because I'm using High Sierra. I also know that expansion packs are not showing up after being installed. The only that would show up is word adventures and high tech stuff. Nothing else is showing up.

The truthful answer is that no version of macOS past 10.8 Mountain Lion is supported in the Sims 3 so there is no guarantee the game will work. If you have read threads on here and elsewhere about the game and the Unknown Error issue then you will know that there is currently no magical fix, just workarounds.

So I guess I should revert back to using El Captain or similar then. I just know that origin is downloading and installing all the other add on packs but they're not showing up in my applications folder or launchpad.

I've moved your posts to this single thread you started, no need to post in multiple threads 🙂

El Capitan was released after Mountain Lion, you're lucky it was working.

The issue with packs not showing as installed is extensively covered in the Sims 3 Mac help thread, the Unknown Error links and in multiple other places on this forum and beyond. Origin does not install the packs on a Mac, an external installer launches and prompts for the serial code after downloading through Origin - are you playing in Boot Camp?

I Haven't got boot camp added this time. I did have before but since my registry files became corrupted a while back I had to reformat my MacBook and install El Captain then update to High Sierra. Do you think I might need bootcamp?

Sims 3 always plays better in Windows, the Mac port using Cider was awful and the cause of most of the problems. If you read the help thread I linked to it will answer a lot of your questions 🙂
