Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only

I haven’t played the Sims game in probably five-ish months but I have been a simmer for years. This time It asked me for an update and once it was done i clicked play. It gives me this message. I don’t have any mods and this is on a mac computer. i’ve quit the game. I’ve restarted my computer. I’ve even repaired the game under the manage tab
