also now that i've started adding furniture / appliances — it's all dark blue/grey no matter what the lighting is that I place it around
Are you sure it isn't the time of day? If you change to afternoon does it look better?
If you don't close off a room properly, or make sure the ceiling is completely covered that also casts a blueish light in the room.

Yeah that was the first thing I looked at — time of day enables some parts of the house to be visible that usually aren't, but there's no time of day when I can see what color the kitchen appliances are. Is it this dark for everyone? I put in like 12 windows and it's still dark!

I was having a similar issue to the original person and I realized that one of the sides to a room didn’t have a wall. So I built a wall there and the problem was gone!
