Would a system restore on my computer bring it back?

Unfortunately, a system restore only restores system files, program files and registry settings. It doesn't touch your personal files. The only way you could retrieve them is if you do regular backups that include your documents folder.
So sorry to be the bearer of this bad news, I'm sure your daughter feels terrible. If it helps at all, I feel your pain. Along with many many others, I suspect 🙂
