I think I saw a tweet by a guru that the new ones don't count. They couldn't somehow add that.
I think you only need to open the grotto with one Sim and then others can just go in. So have another Sim max mechanic skills to open it up.
OK...that doesn't make a lot of sense if they couldn't add them. The sound happens. It would seem they meant them to count. Ah well...

Can't remember who tweeted it so it's a bit hard to hunt down but I do believe it's how it works.
