Greetings! My laptop notified me that I'm required to use the Legacy Edition, despite having a 64 bit OS, simply because I'm using Windows 8.1. My computer is capable of running The Sims 4, but I've had issues with Windows 10 and drivers. Should I update to Windows 10, as my issues were way back when it first was released, or get the Legacy Edition?
@tropicalicz Main support for Windows 8.1 ended and now is on extended support. What that means is new products coming to market may not support 8.1 and support fir existing products may cease. You should be able to upgrade to Windows 10 by using the Microsoft account and you should be able to get a digital code to activate Windows 10. Many people have been upgrading even though MS published an end date (which is over). Once you get a digital activation you can not transfer that code to a new machine build. Even though you have a 64 bit version of Windows if you have 4Gb of memory (or less) the game wants you to run the legacy version. Today's gaming machines should have a least 8Gb of memory. If you can drop in more memory into your laptop (8Gb) you should be ok to run the regular 64 bit version. I have a pile of laptops that max out at 4Gb or are not worth adding memory to an aging laptop. I have an old Toshiba - there is nothing wrong with it except it probably needs a battery. I can't even get $50 for it and that doesn't even cover the cost of the keyboard and power jack I replaced. When I clean out the shop I'll probably end up donating it just to get it out of here. If your laptop predates Windows 10 a lot of hardware got orphaned. The answer to your question - depends on how old your laptop is. If the battery is more then 4 years old and it maxes out at 4Gb of memory and the processor is slower then 2.4Ghz, I recommend a new laptop.
