In addition to what @puzzlezaddict told you the reason why the shortcut on your desktop no longer works is that it points to the old location of ts4.exe. You can change it to point to ts4_x64.exe instead or just always launch the game from Origin.

@jpkarlsen they had me uninstall and installed my sims 4 from origin and when I look into my folder I can't find the TS4 64 bit. It looks different now from what I saw before. Last night I played TS4 using the icon on my laptop and DU is working fine (i hope I don't jinx it!), Cats and Dogs work fine too. My other concern is what the EA tech guy told me not to buy future packs anymore and said that DU will not work. My origin game launch option as I checked is in 64 bit. Thank you for your help.
