baby skin colour change

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? latest update
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? get to work, get together, city living, island living, discover university, all game packs but jungle adventure i think and a few stuff packs
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? have a baby, interact with it and it’ll glitch
What happens when the bug occurs? my baby is very dark skinned with two light- medium skinned parents, when the parents interact with the baby it changes to what i assume is it’s correct colour as it’s much lighter.
What do you expect to see? well the baby shouldn’t change colour, and it’s not the correct tone. this has been happening for me since the recent update on skin tones
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. it was the big november skin tone update

i don’t have any default skin replacements in my game just cc like hair and clothes etc. i also have mccc, ui cheats and SOL but made sure to update them all so i’m not sure why i’m having this issue. i also saw clare siobhan had this issue in her recent not so berry challenge.

  • Do you, by any chance, have an outdated invisible bassinet mod, or other baby override?

That's what caused that issue in my game. No matter what skin the baby had, it showed as black skinned while in the bassinet, but it's actual skin color while held (aliens looked normal because I didn't use an invisible alien bassinet, but the alien baby's portrait was of a black baby). I tried a different invisible bassinet mod and it displayed the baby with the lightest skin while in it, and normal when held. I had to learn myself how to make a new invisible bassinet from scratch and it no longer does this.

  • I’m having the same issue, thought I haven’t added any mods to my game as I have a new pc. The baby looks so different to what I see, it’s like an error or something, is there anything I can do to fix this, as my sim skin looks different.

Unfortunately nothing you can do. This is a bug in the game itself and they are aware of it but it hasn’t made the priority list. Definitely click “me too” on page one of this thread, on the original bug report.

Actually, when I got this notification in my mailbox I thought it was for this thread: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/Laundry-lists-discussion-bug-fixes-and-prioritization/m-p/10295395#M181224

Is this the bug you mean? It was definitely the one I was talking about and is a much bigger thread than this one

  • I'm seeing this quite frequent as of late. babies are always dark... icons, in bassinet and in family portraits. Picking them up, they are usually a similar tone to the parents. Without mods, on new saves...no matter what I do. It's only a minor inconvenience at this point. I generally just age them up immediately as baby objects are kind of boring.  Currently everyone in my game is sporting a dark skinned baby.

I have a baby now with parents of different skin tones. the mother is dark skinned and the father is light. The baby is light skinned when in the bassinet and dark skinned when being held. The bassinet is bamboo override from the Tiny Twavellers custom content pack. So that could be the issue. It doesn't bother me that the baby changes color but I wanted to make sure that this would stop once she ages up (which is happening today). I may remove the override to be safe.

  • Removing the override for the bassinet fixed the skin color switching. The baby has the mother's dark skin and is now a toddler. It's been 2 sim weeks I think and her skin color hasn't changed. So all seems well. Note, her parents were randomly generated by me (everything was random lol), they fell in love in game and she was born in game. The house they live in came with Brindleton Bay. They are too poor to renovate it (beyond the adding a toddler bedroom).

I finally decided to give them makeovers since they had been having a hard time. Here are unnecessary but cute photos.

  • @crinrict Yes the baby is normal color when held but as soon as it is laid in the crib it turns black ;( Can anyone help?
