(Base Game?) Custom Colors auto-generating and creeping into other CAS parts

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.70.84.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Every expansion except Eco Living. Every Game Pack except Batuu. All Stuff Packs except Toddler Stuff, First Pet Stuff, Kids Room Stuff.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Not sure - all I did was set a custom color palette for eyeshadow and lipstick and play over time.
What happens when the bug occurs? Custom color palettes are generated automatically in odd places, and they cannot be deleted - unlike the ones I myself actually make. They then creep into other body parts, like eyebrow color or the sclera of the eye.
What do you expect to see? I expect the game to not generate its own custom palettes and to further not spread them to other body parts like some horrific infection.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

So, initially I simply made a custom color palette for eyeshadow and lipstick. Things were fine for a while, but I eventually noticed a Sim of mine that had very bright yellow-ish green cheeks. I investigated and it seems the game spontaneously generated a custom color palette for blush - when, how or why this happened, I have no idea whatsoever, but I've never made a custom color palette for blush. This was, for some reason, mostly confined to the swimwear category to begin. This palette also could not be deleted, however I tried. I could change it to another color in CAS, but it almost never stuck once I left CAS. The game also generated a custom palette in eyeliner, and while it exhibited similar behavior (also cannot be deleted), the color it went with was a similar black so it didn't stick out as much.

Now if this is where it ended, that'd be nice, but it does not. This spread to other outfit types, but with a twist that makes it so much worse. Not only did the green creep into the Sim's eyebrows, forcing them to be green (this could be changed temporarily but would come back often), but it spread into the sclera of her eyes. The game also had an obsession with changing her eyeshadow to purple, and this purple crept into her iris color, or so I assume. So the Sim is literally stuck with a nauseatingly yellow-ish green sclera and purple iris eyecolor situation, green eyebrows and red hair. The only thing I can change is what I set personally, the red hair.

The Sim in question is a vampire, and for some reason her Dark Form body is smaller and emaciated in nearly every aspect - I discovered this only because I was trying to copy one form to another to narrow down causes. The issues seem somehow tied to the Sim's human form "Face" category, if I unlinked forms (WHY is linked set by default and why can't I unset the default) and copied the human form to the dark form, the dark form would gain the issue. The odd emaciation (which is new, I didn't have this last time I played a vampire) seems tied to both the Face and Body Shape category.

In summation, custom color palettes seem to be generating autonomously and these cannot be deleted and they creep into other body parts, even those whose color cannot be edited (I can't find a way to manually change sclera color, I could be wrong). I don't know if it's somehow tied to Vampire coding but I included that just to be sure. I'm attaching a picture in CAS illustrating the problem, and showing the offending automatically generated custom color palette I believe to be the source. I changed the color to a more normal blush, but in hindsight I should have left it on that offending palette to illustrate it. Still, that green custom color was not made by me in any way, shape or form. For reference, she should have blue eyes, normal white sclera, and her eyebrows should match her hair as CAS indicated.

I would have tried deleting all custom color palettes on a file directory level to experiment, but I have no idea where those reside and if they're accessible at all. If they are, I'd love to know where so I can try it! Also, I was playing with mods but I turned them off and all of this still persisted, whatever I tried. Sorry for the essay, this one really drug out!

  • @Saihyou As far as I can tell the custom makeup swatches are saved with the save game itself.

If you start a fresh game without any mods in at all, does the same happen ?

@crinrict I was afraid of that, so there's no way I can purge this manually. Perhaps I'll start a new game then just leave it on max speed for a while after creating some custom makeup, as I have no interest in starting a new save at the moment. Maybe I'll save the victim Sim to my library and put her in it later too, see how it goes.

It'd be sad to have entire saves corrupted by something like this! I have no idea why I can't delete the palette... perhaps the game doesn't recognize them as being there since they weren't manually created, despite the fact it is there somehow and wreaking havoc?

@Saihyou It would be good for the bug report though if you did a test on a save without mods. If it happened with the mods, there's no way of telling if it was mod induced in the first place and they just aren't removed when you remove the mod.

@crinrict Oh absolutely, that new save will be 100% without mods. The Sim in question actually has no custom content associated with her. The only mods I have in CAS are ponytail hairstyles, but I didn't use any this time around. But perhaps I'll just keep her out of it entirely anyway in the interest of trying to troubleshoot this, now that you mention it. Thanks for the heads up!

@crinrict Ah, sorry for the lack of communication! I have started a new save file recently, though I haven't had enough time in it to see if it pops up yet. Buuuut, my suspicions so far are a combination of vampires, their dark form and a certain mod. So if it is indeed caused by a mod, it has no real place here. The issue does get absorbed into the base game, likely the save data itself though, so it'll remain present even if mods are disabled later.

So TL;DR: In the old file, it still happens but happens much less with the vampire's dark form deleted. In the new file, no issues yet but uncertain. Likely caused by a mod interfacing with custom palettes oddly. So we might be able to consider this done, if it is indeed a mod related cause.

@Saihyou Going to move this to tech then.

Let me know should you find it's not mod related.
