Black polygons on World Map after update 1.126.73.1030 (Intel Iris Xe)

Hello,

After updating The Sims 4 to version 1.126.73.1030, large black polygons appear on the World Map.

The issue happens in multiple worlds, including Oasis Springs and Willow Creek.

Build Mode and Live Mode work normally. My lots load correctly and are not corrupted. The problem only appears on the World Map.

I have already tried:

Removed all mods and CC

Deleted localthumbcache.package

Deleted cache folders

Repaired the game in the EA App

Started a new save

Updated my Intel Iris Xe graphics driver to the latest version

The issue started immediately after the latest game update.

System:

Windows 11

Intel Iris Xe Graphics

Driver version 32.0.101.5542

Expected result:

The World Map should display normally.

Actual result:

Large black polygons appear over lots on the World Map.

  • Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?

    - Press Windows-Key + R

    - Type: DxDiag

    - Click on Save all Information.

    - Attach the Text File to your post

  • LobkeA  I can see from your dxdiag that you've been playing in DirectX 9 mode at least some of the time.  Does this happen in DX11 mode as well?  Even if you'd prefer to use DX9 mode in general, please test DX11 mode just so we know.

And to be clear, this happens in a new save if you don't add any content to it: nothing from the Gallery or your own library, AND no mods or custom content?  I just want to be sure.

Your laptop's graphics driver is a little old, not so much that it's an obvious issue, but enough that it could be the cause here.  So you can try installing the newest driver from Intel if you want.  I'd still test DX11 mode first though, and a totally clean save if you haven't already.

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart the laptop afterwards and before trying to play.  If you get an error when trying to install the driver (it's compatible because Intel says so, but HP software often blocks drivers not provided by HP), use this workaround:

    Hey,

I already have the latest version.

    I tried DirectX9 and DX11.

I really tried a lot of things already and nothing is working

  • LobkeA  You don't have the latest version of the graphics driver though.  Your dxdiag clearly shows it's version 32.0.101.5542, from 2024.  The version Intel offers, the one I linked, is 32.0.101.7088.

This is why I linked the driver—you can't simply check for updates and trust the answer that you already have the latest version of any driver.  Windows would tell you that you have what it thinks is the latest suitable driver, but this doesn't get updated regularly.  (Even an Nvidia driver for a gaming desktop might get updated once a year if Windows gets to decide.)  And HP would tell you that you have the newest driver that HP has available for your system.  But clearly neither is the absolute newest driver you could install.
