I have had the black screen problem since I had the game (2014), I always used alt+tab to recover my screen. I didn't play sims for about a month, I started playing again yesterday and every thing was fine I didn't have to use alt+tab. I then bought a house, then when I tried to place my possessions the screen went black again. this time alt+tab isn't working!!! Help!!
Did you try turning off Origin In game ?

Are you using the new Origin Beta client or the current stable version ?
Maybe trying the beta version helps too ?
You only seem to have a graphics chip in your computer and no card. What do you have your settings on ?

Using Origin Version 9.12.0.34172 - 427388, is this a beta version?. I have tried turning off the Origin in game mode, this did not make a difference. he graphics setting are set to 1280 x 1024 with a 75hz refresh rate for the PC. With this in mind however, I have revised the in-game resolution to 1280 x 800 appears to have help. I still have to use the Alt-Tab trick to get around the bug, whereas previously even this did not work.

The new beta looks completely different so it's easy to spot. Does sound like you have beta.
Can you try other resolutions ?

@shady23123 What is the native resolution for your display device? Most lcd monitors use a 60Hz refresh unlike crts in the old days when a higher refresh typically gave you less flicker. LCD's don't fade like a crt therefore you don't have flicker. This is the simple explanation.
