Black Screen Blue Ring - Sims 4 Won't Work

@trixyfly  It's possible your reply, and the whole earlier thread, was flagged as spam, which happens sometimes when a post is repeatedly edited.  It might turn up eventually, or not.

Anyway, there are a couple different issues flagged in your dxdiag that could account for the game not working.  One is that your system is trying and failing to fix a .NET framework (I'd have to look up which one).  If it's the most recent version. sfc should fix it.  It's a good idea to run DISM too, given the errors; both will check your Windows system files for problems in different ways.

• Hit Windows key-X
• Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
• Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
• The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
• After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
• Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
• Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
• Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, and download and install a new driver for your Nvidia card.  You can get the newest version here:

Choose a custom install, and select the option to perform a clean install.

Please also undo any compatibility settings you've applied.  Origin, Steam, and Sims 4 all work in Windows 10, at least most of the time, and a compatibility mode can complicate troubleshooting.

I completed the 2 power shell tasks with no issues or errors. I restarted and the same net framework error popped up. I tried to fix this earlier with windows update? It didn't fix it either. I wasn't sure what it actually was or how to fix it honestly.  I will attach a copy of the text inside the error. 

Video driver updated as directed.

Both the directions online to do manual and the wizard repair didn't work to get rid of that net framework error either.

@trixyfly  Just in case you didn't address it before, please make sure Origin isn't running in compatibility mode.  Right-click on the Origin shortcut on your desktop, select Properties, then the Compatibility tab; the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode" should be unchecked.

Please also do a clean uninstall of the MSI System Control Manager, which is mentioned in the error you posted.  Use Revo Uninstaller, which you can get here (either free version works fine):

• Start by making sure there are no instances of the SCM in the Task Manager, and end them if you do find any.
• Launch Revo, select the SCM, and uninstall it.
• When it's done, Revo should ask what cleaning method you want to use.  Select Moderate, then click Browse.
• Delete anything Revo finds that's specifically related to the SCM, but double-check the names on all the entries, in case other MSI software gets flagged.
• When Revo is done, restart your computer, and test Sims 4.

Just so you know, the Function keys won't work with SCM uninstalled.  If Sims 4 works now, you can try reinstalling it; you'll find the download for your laptop here, under Utility:

If Sims 4 doesn't work, don't reinstall the SCM yet; just let me know, and post another error report.

YOU ARE MAGICAL!!!!!!!! The MSI program was the issue. I checked that I wasn't in compatibility mode, uninstalled the program like you said and BOOM the game opened. I could seriously hug you right now. I got so frustrated and annoyed with this problem. Thank you SO much for taking the time to reply and help me. It wasn't a big deal for me to just delete the whole thing and move on, it was more the annoyance of it just not working. Do I need to reinstall that MSI program or should I just leave it off? I don't really think I use it. 

@trixyfly  If you never use anything to do with the program, technically you don't need it.  But it does affect the Function keys, and probably other small details like that that would matter to you.  So in your position, I'd reinstall it, and if Sims 4 doesn't open again, just get rid of it in the same way and live without those uses.

I reinstalled it and the black screen blue ring problem returned. I don't know if I use the program or not so I'm guessing not. I will try it without. Also my laptop seems very fast without it running - which is odd

Ok update - I reinstalled the MSI program after I got the Sims to work.. Then just like before black ring with blue screen. I then uninstalled the MSI program again using Revo. Restarted and attempted to open the Sims. Same issue - black screen blue ring.

I only got it to successfully open the game the one time.

Several hours later update - Frustrated I decided to read - apparently the MSI bloatware throws off errors so I deleted all of those utilities and restarted. No computer issues and its even faster. Tried to open Sims 4 and it still gave the black screen blue ring.

I then went into Origin did a file validation and selected windowed mode just to try (it was suggested in another fix). It worked and even after restart I am able to get into the game. 

@trixyfly  Yeah, there's a lot of bloatware in most laptops made by mainstream manufacturers.  I'm surprised yours is conflicting with Sims 4 so badly, since plenty of Sims 4 players have MSI laptops, and I'd expect to hear about more issues.  Maybe it's something about having a Steam install, maybe it's other software on your laptop... I really don't know.

It's really helpful to know that repairing the game (is that what you did?) and using windowed mode helped.  Does windowed fullscreen work?  How about normal fullscreen, now that the game is cooperating?  And I wonder if a different resolution would have an effect.  You don't need to test if you don't want to, but if you're interested, make a copy of options.ini (in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4) before you start.  That file stores all your in-game options, so if the game doesn't load after you change something, you can put the unaltered copy back, and your previous settings will be restored.

repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> does this mean it worked
