Bug: Build Mode Crashing 1.55+ patch

Product: The Sims 4
PlatformPC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? All the time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.55.108.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except Mochino Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go to Windenburg (the Villareal lot - 64x64), go to Build Mode, import the "Windenburg Castle" by Rediredtorch, and then go back to Manage Worlds. If it doesn't crash there - go back into Build Mode on that lot - crashes.
What happens when the bug occurs? The game crashes to desktop. Prior to 1.55+ patch, I have had no issues with this lot, graphic settings, or mods.
What do you expect to see? To enter/exit the Build Mode without crashing
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes - Have also tested without mods, issue still occurs.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes - patch 1.55 (with and without Realm of Magic)

I have made a post about this issue before, but it seems to have been ignored. I have attempted to build in Brindleton Bay, and the crashing occurred there as well. Before any replies are made about suggestions that I have already tried, I will repeat them here:

- I have already "factory reset" the MyDocuments\ElectronicArts\The Sims 4\  folder
- I have already tried removing mods
- I have tried lowering graphics settings
- I have updated Windows 7 64bit and my NVIDIA graphics drivers
- I have uninstalled Sims 4 + cleaned out all other folders from the computer -> Reset PC -> Reinstalled Sims4
- I have attempted a New Game with the above tests - still persists

PC Specs (Just in case):
- i74790k@4.0Ghz
- 16gb of Ram (corsair 2133mhz)
- 2x factory superclocked ATI nVidia GeForce GTX 780 TIs (1 dedicated to PhysX)
- Maximus Extreme VI motherboard
- Corsair H100i water cooling system (temps run smootherly in mid 30s)
- 500GB SSD + 2TB HDD @ 7200rpm (Origin and Sims 4 is on the HDD)

Can't seem to upload the lastCrasht.txt (site won't let me)

  • @JarrenV   I tried this and it crashes my game too when placed on the Van-Windenburg Mansion lot on the island in Windenburg world; when exiting to Manage World, just like you said. When placed in Del Sol Valley it does not crash when doing the same. From the 64x64 lot in Del Sol Valley I saved it to my library, both under a new name, and with its original; and then used those versions to place in Windenburg, neither crashed, even when going in and out of build mode and switching household. But I do not have all the packs it is created with and cannot know if the object count is what matters most.

Could you try to place it in another world, and from there save it to your library? You will find 'your' version by looking for you as 'creator'. Place that version in Windenburg.
If that doesn't work: place it in another world and rename it completely (Not Windenburg Castle). Then save it to library and try to place it in Windenburg again.

What is the lot's name on the island when you are trying to place the house there?
Do you get any lastException.txt in your The Sims 4 folder? I'm not sure how to interpret them, just wanted to compare to mine.

Let me know if it crashes again.

  • I would like to first state that I have followed the steps plus extra (resetting to default, removed mods, new game, even tried re-installing all of the Sims 4 (except Realm of Magic which I believed to be the culprit at the time; however I am thinking it might just be the 1.55 patch in general). Please please please, help me find this issue so I can resolve it. ☹️

    THE ISSUE:
When I import the Windenburg Castle (by RediredTorch) in the 64x64 lot on the western island in Windenburg, and as soon as I exit build mode - it crashes to desktop.

    TO KEEP IN MIND:
     - I have never had this issue before throughout multiple saves prior to 1.55 patch, or RoM
     - Nor have I had these issues while my settings were on Ultra(graphics) plus up to date mods, and not up to date Graphics drivers.
     - I have recently updated my Graphics drivers (for this troubleshooting)

    UPDATE:

     - I have re-installed RoM
     - Lowered/Customized graphics settings (including Vertical Sync) and changed resolution
     - Removed a few mods I felt I didn't really need

Currently... no crash issues anymore (on Windenburg Island + Castle)... so I am not exactly sure which was the problem. My guess - either mod related or the resolution/graphics.

Nevermind. Just went to edit lot again, and it crashed.

    UPDATE: 09-20-2019 1:15pm

    - It's definitely got to be an object count or something... downloaded a different (bigger) lot, and it crashed (Windenburg island). So.... GPU driver issue maybe?
    - Will try uninstalling my drivers, and re-installing them

    UPDATE: 09-20-2019 1:08pm

    - Re-downloading lot did not fix the problem. Will try downloading a similarly cluttered lot, and see if it is the object count?

    UPDATE: 09-20-2019 1pm PST

    - I have discovered through many attempts of other builds on the same Windenburg lot that only the Windenburg Castle has been causing the crashes.

    - Having tried others (e.g. Highbourne Castle) there were no other crashes..

So there is a conflict somewhere with the Windenburg Castle lot itself and the latest patch and/or settings? Corrupted lot maybe? I will try re-downloading it and see if that fixes the problem. Because it has never crashed before the 1.55 patch so I have no current explanation on why it is doing it now ☹️

OMG It worked.... It freakin' worked!!!!! <3 OH I AM SO HAPPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYY (if you couldn't tell) :D thank you thank you thank you thank you! (Will have to rotate the lot or find a better place to do these steps in - so I can have it facing the right way :P ) But it works!

    ------------------------
@DonroaAkashuYou have no idea how happy am I to hear that (I mean also sad, but that I'm not the only one - and not going out of my mind lol).

I'll give that a shot (putting it in another world and saving it).

The original lot name was that 64x64 on the island (In a vanilla game save it's something like the Villreal Estate or something), but in this game save (Plumbella's) it's a park.

Yeah I have the lastException.txt and lastException_11numbers.txt but can never seem to attach them here.

@JarrenV   Oh, I am so glad to hear that! Did you have to rename the lot or did it work just by placing it in another world

My last.Exception.txt files were very short, if you care to you could just copy them to a post, I am just curious. Hope it works now, otherwise just come back.

And it would be a good idea to let the creator know.

@DonroaAkashuWell out of caution, I renamed the lot. I have confirmed trying to re-save the castle in the same world doesn't work though (tried it on the northern 64x64 lot next to the Van Haunt Estate) - it HAS to be on another world.

As for the lastException... Uhhh I don't think I can copy those to the post. It's a lot of long gibberish (Well as a software developer myself I know it's not "gibberish" - but you know what I mean :P ) It's a lot of html/xml stuff.

It's not just the creator though. I've tested a couple other object-heavy lots, and it's the same result (crashes in Windenburg). It's gotta be some kind of conflict inside the game/ latest patch or something. I just don't know what it is. I know people have complained about crashing problems before - but I think those were non-related issues (outdated mods/cc, or something)

@JarrenV  The files can be attached just like any file here, and put under a spoiler, but it doesn't matter, I am not capable of reading them, I was just curious to compare. I got different errors when I renamed on the spot, and when just downloading and placing.

And I tried that as well, to save the lot to library from its place in Windenburg before going to Manage World, and then bulldoze, place the saved version out, but it still crashed; so yes, another world was necessary.

These other lots that crashed, were they built in/for Windenburg too? It seems the Windenburg Castle was built on the other 64x64 lot in Windenburg, in the north. Maybe that has something to do with it. And my game nearly ever crashes (in TS3 too), but as I understand it the reasons are legion for The Sims to do that!

I also tried both versions by Rediredtorch (I don't really understand why they have two of the same build), but both crashed. The one I continued testing with is the one with 736 KB (the other has 734KB).
