Can I purchase EP but wait to install and still play game?

I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this, but can I buy an expansion pack and wait to install it and then still play the game? 🤔

Particularly, I'm referring to "For Rent". I want to buy it now because it's on sale, but I don't want to install it until the bug issue is finally fixed. 😏

Yes, I know I could install it and then disable it, but I'd rather not go that route. 😊

As for the sale expiring, there will almost certainly be another one during Black Friday week; at least there has been every year I've been paying attention.  And I doubt the For Rent-related issues you're referencing would be fixed before then since we'll probably only have one major patch in the interim.

Well, isn't that nice! The EA App said it was on sale until Oct 6 and now here on Oct 6 it's full price again! UGH!

I do have auto update off.. I usually wait a few days to allow for mods to update and I play offline in the meantime. And I see what you're saying, but, when you say it will try to install with an update, can I cancel just "For Rent" at that time? ..or will I have to skip the update all together?

As for the sale, makes sense that there will be another.. which I'm probably better off waiting anyway.. but it's just annoying to plan on based on the date they said and it wasn't there. This was all because I have the money now and just wanted to take care of it, because I know, SOMEDAY it will be safe to install For Rent.. right?! ..lol! 😄

  • Fizzyyzzif  You can cancel a pack download separately from a base game update.  Just remember to pay attention at the time.  The download will show in the lower-left corner of the App window, or you can click that area while the game is updating to see the download queue and cancel the FR download there.

I know it's frustrating to miss a sale that you could have taken advantage of even if you're sure there will be another.  It's a common theme on the forums too.  And for future reference, all EA sales end at 10 am Pacific time on the stated day, for whatever reason.

Ok I get it. I've seen that lower corner showing the progress.. just didn't realize there's a way to stop a pack from there. So I'd just have make sure not to miss it! 😄 That is if I do end up buying it before I'm ready to install it.

Thank you for the info. Well that's just silly EA.

Thank you very much for your help puzzlezaddict
