Cannot delete save files

Cannot delete save files from within the game. I go to the "Load Game" option on the start menu and after waiting for the save file list to load, I select a game to be deleted. When I hit the "OK" button, the game immediately freezes. Whatever music continues to play until it has completed and then stops. I have tried this three times with different files and after verifying all game files (a process that took nearly 7 hours even with a 900mbps connection). I am able to open the file after the attempted delete, so the program is locking up before it makes any attempt to remove the save files.

I engage in rotational play and additionally keep incremental back-ups at critical decision points every few hours. As careful as EA tries to be when releasing new content, there are inevitably errors and I do not want to risk losing what is really a single game save, especially considering that I have logged nearly 4,000 hours in game. This method worked brilliantly in Sims 3 and although more difficult to manage in Sims 4, has been acceptable and has saved me from corrupted game files on several occasions.

However, this method leaves me with something like 1,300 game saves and it is why I need to delete save files every so often. I do not understand why it was decided to make the Sims 4 save filenames so cryptic, but because they are far too difficult to consistently and reliably match up to the meaningful names that I give them in game, they must be deleted from in game and I find that I can no longer do so.

  • @JasonVega2  If you hover over the folder icon with your other save data, you'll see the file name for a given save.  You can write down that file name and then delete the corresponding file from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves.  You can also sort this saves folder by modified date if you're looking to delete a number of old saves at once.

I agree that this isn't ideal, but you can make it work with some extra effort.

@puzzlezaddict Thanks, I will give that a try! I notice now that you mention it, that I can apparently copy the save filename from the saved file list. Not ideal, as you say, but it will allow me to keep playing my favorite game!

Thanks so much for your suggestion!
