cannot load sims to properties after Lovestruck update and oopsie patch

Game is unplayable - I did take all the mods off and painfully loaded a batch in. Everything stopped when I had this one folder with Hannukah stuff in it. Then....removing it still didn't work. Basically, I'm clicking on a lot, and simply want to add a new sim. Right now I have no mods other than eyelashes. And although this has happened every thing you have an update to support a pack I'm not going to buy, why do this? Work with the modders next time. In the meantime, though, I have NO idea what is going on and this is the one day I can actually play it

  • And just to be clear here, I have AVG antivirus and Windows Defender, am on a laptop Windows 11. Although no issues with the "lovestruck" patch, and was able to play the game yesterday. However, the emergency patch does not seem to have been downloaded although the little irritating sim showed up. Any suggestions?  Been playing since 2014. Now I can't.

  • @katinkamom  What game version do you see at the Main Menu, in the lower-right corner?  The current patch level (at least of this posting) is 1.108.329, so if you see that, you're good.  And if the game launches and you can get far enough to load a save, AVG is probably not an issue here.

Please clarify what happens when you try to add a new sim: what step doesn't work and what you see instead.  Please test with no mods or custom content at all, at least for now.

What exactly happens is nothing but the plumbob spinning and so it's hanging up at that point. The odd thing is that it was working fine and then not and I didn't download any other mods or anything. Not even clothes. So the only way I got a sim into a game was to create a new game with no mods so the sad little sim is still there, and I do have MCCMD modules so I can change the hair at least, but not add another sim after that. My only solution then, is ti take every NPC and change their appearance and 'kill' the rest. Not exactly the calm zen thing I had before.

Again, I'm on a laptop, running win11 my antivirus is not interferring with anything and I use CurseForge (yuck) and The Sims Resource and since, at least I support the modders, Patreon.

So there was an update this morning but it did not help.

To make matters worse, went into regular game I created with new vampire sim, this happened when I realized I was missing MCCommand modules. If I delete the game and start over, will I be able to recover the hundreds of dollars I spent on the game packs back?  I don't know what else to do. Seriously, I don't.

@katinkamom  Your EA account owns your Sims 4 content, not your computer.  So if you were to uninstall the game, everything you'd bought would be available to download again, for free.  I can't speak to the modders' policies though.

As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and let me know what problems are currently present.

I understand you don't want to play long-term with no mods or cc, but given that you're seeing multiple issues, it's important to disentangle the influence of mods from any bugs or issues with the game itself.  The clean folder does exactly that.

Thank you for your suggestion puzzleaddict. I get it. Worked 34 years in IT, know what it means to have to try not to kill the project and start over. I have had issues with Crystal Creations but they were easy to fix. The Lovestruck changes were short-sighted work on the part of Sims 4 and sure wish I did work for them because at least, by now, they would be working with modding in mind at least instead of getting all giddy about a heart-shaped bed. IMHO.. And been playing since it started and never, ever had the 'cannot save' message show up when I basically opened up the new test game I set up, clicked on the sim, started play and opened the menu on it, saw vampires (since they are one) and make it impervious to sun, then went to save and exit. Yes, that bad.

@katinkamom  I know this pack has its problems, as they all do at release (some more than others), but it doesn't sound like your issues are inherent to the content, which is why I asked if you'd try a clean folder.  I also don't have any insight into the work Maxis has done or is doing on this EP; I can only go by what I see on the forums.  I'd still like to help, but without the results of the clean folder test, it's hard to know where to start.
