Can't open or uninstall The Sims 4.

I was thinking that maybe it was a custom content issue so I deleted some of it, but the game still wouldn't open. I tried repairing it about 5 times, but nothing. I then hesitantly tried uninstalling it in hopes that I could reinstall it and everything would be fixed, but I couldn't even do that. I'm stumped. I honestly love the game so I really want to play it again. Any help is appreciated.

@4272445841257445  The fact that the game works once you've moved your user folder means something in that folder is the problem.  The most likely culprit is mods, so test those first in the new folder.  Test them in batches, or use the 50/50 method if you have a lot of files to sort through:

Once you've done that, you can move over the contents of saves, Tray (saved households and builds), plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if they matter to you.  The other files and folders can be discarded; the game will create new ones as necessary.

  • @Lizith  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

  • @Lizith  The driver for your computer's graphics chip is very old and may not be compatible with Sims 4.  It's difficult to tell though because your dxdiag is full of generic Windows update errors.  It's best to clean those up first, so please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

You can download the newest driver Intel offers for your graphics chip here:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/75043/intel-core-i54570-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-60-ghz/downloads.html

You'll want the one dated February 5, 2021, not the one from April 2021, which is only for Windows 7 and 8.1.  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.  If the game still doesn't work, please post a new dxdiag.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.
PS C:\Windows\system32> is the message I received. I will now restart and do the next steps.

hi @puzzlezaddict ! i keep seeing your replies on different threads. can you please help me? when i try to open the EA app or Sims 4 nothing happens - I cannot open my Error Reporter either. I couldn't get the EA app to uninstall either. I copied my Sims 4 folder to my desktop and deleted it from the Electronic Arts folder but that didn't work. I've restarted my computer multiple times. i have a brand new lenovo gaming laptop with tons of storage and great graphics. i just played last night but had an issue saving - the screen was stuck "saving" for awhile so i restarted my computer and was hoping to play again today but now i can't open the app. any help is appreciated. thank you!

@vkalpaxis  The EA App not opening is the first problem that needs to be addressed; even if there's nothing wrong with Sims 4, you still wouldn't be able to play without the App working properly.  So please uninstall the App with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine), and restart your computer before reinstalling it.  Then let me know whether the App loads as normal, and if so, what happens when you try to play Sims 4.

I did this and can open the sims when I moved my existing sims 4 folder in EA Documents but I would like my previous saves and downloaded mods.

    How do I do that?
