Cats and Dogs

I haven't played with Cats and Dogs for some time so I thought today I'd play with it and I created a puppy in CAS and put it into the household.  All interactions that have the Sim pick up the puppy don't work. Actions like give smooches, kiss, hug, give bath don't work. The Sim just keeps holding the puppy until I have to cancel out the action. Is anyone else experiencing this? As I haven't played in some time I wouldn't know if it was caused by an update/patch. I have never used mods or cc.
