Constant crashing after Cottage Living installation - please help!

    @puzzlezaddict I found a solution! 

    Basically I just stopped playing Sims for a while due to the crashing, but during this time I remembered that when I got the new expansion pack I also used Sims 4 Studio to update my mods. I had updated my skins to make them compatible with the recent update, but after this update the crashes began. 

    I went back to the original versions of the skin files and re-downloaded those instead and the crashes have since stopped. It looks like the files which were modified using Sims 4 Studio were for some reason breaking the game. This is odd because I've never had issues using Sims 4 Studio before, but I'm glad to have finally isolated the issue!

    @puzzlezaddict thank you for being willing to help! 

    Size of the game is: 7.85GB

    I've attached the file. 

    In regards to RAM, it is taking up 3.3GB - I attached a screenshot.

      @dslepenk  Your save file is almost 8 GB?  That doesn't sound right; even over 100 MB would be excessive.

      Regardless, please try playing a new save in a clean user folder, just for the sake of comparison.  Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be in the folder you've moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and let me know how it runs.

      If you see the same lag and/or crashing, please try playing in a clean boot:

      When you reboot, go through the Task Manager's background processes list and shut down anything that doesn't need to be running.  Anything with a Windows or Nvidia logo is fine, but pretty much everything else doesn't need to be there.

        @puzzlezaddict I looked into the size and it does look like most of the files are in my mod folder. I don't have invasive mods, but I do have quite a few skin / CC / Build/Buy items that I've not had issues with before. I did try to remove the gameplay mods and play without them, but the crash still occurred. The issue is, I'm not sure how to test the game without my mods - one of the periods of playing that I had was over 2 - 3 hours long with no crashes. 

        I did as you suggested and tried playing with a clean folder. It seems to run smoothly - but as mentioned, sometimes the crash would occur several hours in so it's difficult to tell if the game would crash after a few hours of playing.
