A new save (one you create now) should be unaffected though, since this usually only happens if you start a new save while the install process hasn't finished.
What do you mean by you "tried the steam thing"? If you've installed through Steam, that's where you need to repair; the option won't show up in the EA App. Right-click the Sims 4 tile in Steam and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
