Sims 4 Downloaded Household Not Appearing In My Library

Okay so i've posted one of these before but it's been a long time so sorry if it sounds confusing!!๐Ÿ˜“

So I had downloaded about 3 or 4 households but they did not appear in my library, I put the tray files in the tray folder (no subfolders) and the mods in the mod folder. I also had closed sims 4 before adding the household (I forgot to mention that I also pressed 'include custom content'). I had repaired my game, checked if the tray files were in the right location and checked the creators instructions for anything.

Please help!!! I appreciate any help that comes my way!!!

  • Me again!! I forgot to add that I read on google that I might have to restart my game!! Is there any other way around that?

  • kcc0rauniio4โ€‹  Are the Tray files in a subfolder?  If they are, the game wouldn't read them.  And please triple-check that the files are in the Sims 4 folder the game is reading.  To see their exact location, right-click one and select Properties > General, then look at the Location.  This is how to find the full path to the folder Sims 4 is reading:

And yes, no matter what, you'd need to restart your game to get the files recognized.  But you should be able to save your progress in some state at least.  If there's a reason you're having trouble with that, let me know and I'll try to find an interim solution.

I've checked and  no, the tray files are not in a subfolder. I looked at the properties of the location and it says "C:\Users\kimki\OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Tray" I'm not 100% sure if that is right but let me know.

Also, I'm not sure how to restart sims 4 without it having problems with mods and other apps like Gshade. Help will be appreciated!!

  • kcc0rauniio4โ€‹  I meant you can simply quit the game and reload it.  You don't need to reinstall it.  GShade should keep working, as should all your mods.

I do need the location of the folder the game is reading though, what you see in-game.  The location you've provided for Tray is the right format.  But since we're on the subject, please open this Tray folder and highlight the files you added to it that won't show up.  You can hold ctrl while you click each file to select some that are out of order.  Or if it's easier, you can sort by modified date.

    You wanted this correct?:

    C:\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves\Slot_0000000a.save

Also, what did you want me to do after I highlighted it? Did you wanted me to add it in the chat? (Sorry I'm a bit confused)

  • kcc0rauniio4โ€‹  That's what I wanted, and I just needed to see it here.  The problem is that the game is somehow reading C:\Documents etc. whereas your Tray files are in C:\Users etc.  The files need to be where the game is looking.

If you don't want Sims 4 using this location, let me know what you'd like it to use instead.

  • I don't want to change the location, but is there a solution as to where sims 4 can read the right files?

  • kcc0rauniio4โ€‹  The files need to be in the location the game is reading.  Do you want to change the location the game is reading or not?  Either way is fine.

To be more specific, each Windows user account has a designated Documents directory.  (There are several Documents folders, but only one per account is the directory.)  Sims 4 tries to store user data in this location.  If it cannot, sometimes it uses a different one, and sometimes it refuses to start at all.

So if you want the game to store the data in a different location, you have to move the location of the Documents directory, or you have to create a symbolic link from the location the game is currently reading to the location you want it to read.  I can help with either one, but you need to decide what you want to do first.

  • Can I  keep the location the game is reading? But If itโ€™s not possible if I want my households to be added in the game thatโ€™s fine to do that option if itโ€™s necessary.

  • kcc0rauniio4โ€‹  Yes, of course you can keep using the location the game is already reading.  Just put the files you want to use there instead of where they are now.
