Cottage Living - my Sims game now has no sound in it

Hi simmers,

I was having issues downloading the cottage living pack I pre-ordered, but was finally able to download it into my game yesterday.

After downloading it, I went into my game and there was no sound at all. I checked my audio settings, I repaired my game, I deleted the CONFIG and OPTIONS files from my documents, I have tried trouble shooting my audio on my computer.

My computer monitor does not have speakers, so I use headphones. Everything else on my computer is working fine, sound wise. I can listen to spotify, I can listen to youtube, the other games on my origin have sound e.g the sims 3.

I finally decided yesterday to completely uninstall the sims 4 and reinstall it. After installing the sims 4 BASE GAME, I went into the game and there was no sound. After downloading some expansion packs, removing the CONFIG/OPTIONS files, repairing the game, restarting my computer, there was no sound in the game.

I am at a loss...I don't know what to do. I was really looking forward to playing cottage living, especially considering I am currently in lockdown in Australia. I can still play the game, but I am very frustrated there is no sound, as I find it hard to experience the gameplay without sound.

Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do??

  • @annakeher28  Please try turning spatial sound in your computer's sound settings: you can right-click on the sound icon in the lower right corner of your screen to open the settings.

If that doesn't work, please test with a different sound output device, if you have one, preferably with a different type of connection: maybe you have Bluetooth headphones as well as ones that connect via USB or jack.

If that doesn't help either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

    Hi @puzzlezaddict

    Thanks for your reply.

I turned the spatial sound on in my sound settings, however, upon returning to the game there was still no sound.

I only have earphones and headphones that attach via jack. I am looking to get some headphones that attach via USB or bluetooth asap.

My dxdiag is attached to this post.

@annakeher28  I wasn't suggesting that you need to buy a different set of headphones, simply that it would be useful to test with another device if you had one available.  The problem could be the headphone jack or your device itself, but it could just as easily be a software issue.

On that note, please try updating all your sound drivers.  With your preferred headphones plugged in, hit Windows key-X, select the Device Manager, open the Audio category, click on each entry in turn, and click the black and green Update icon at the top of the window.  Repeat for the devices under Sound.  Please let me know what, if anything, updates.  Then restart your computer and try playing with spatial sound both on and off.

Go into sound settings. Scroll down to Advanced Sound Options. Click on App Volume and Devce preferences scroll down you should see app volume. It will tell you if your game is on mute. I just did this. It showed me that origin and sims4 was on mute moved the sound to 100 and unmuted. I have sound back.
