SOUND ERROR

I've been playing for a few days and noticed that the game's sound is bugged on the upper floors. On the first floor, the game sounds normal with high volume for what the Sims are doing, but when I go to the second floor, the game sounds extremely quiet, as if the camera were still on the floor below. When I use the free camera with the "TAB" key, the second floor sounds normal, but playing with the free camera isn't ideal because it hides the HUD. When I deactivate the free camera, I notice that it automatically switches to the first floor without me using the arrow keys to change the floor view. Can you fix this? I hate that I can't hear anything my Sims are doing on the second floor. I've already tried uninstalling all my mods and even creating a new game, and the problem persists, so this is an internal bug in the game. I'm playing on version 1.122.218 on PC.

Yes, I actually tried creating a new game (WITHOUT MODS) and the problem persists. I tested it in the houses that the game already has built, and the second floor is still bugged with the sound. I can't say for sure if it's the same with the upper floors since my house has two floors, and most of the houses already built are two floors, so I didn't try with more floors. The point is that the sound glitches on the second floor.

I have this problem too, were you able to fix it?

puzzlezaddict I'm currently playing with headphones; I've already tried with speakers, and it's the same on the upper floors, it sounds like the camera is on another wall. I use the program "FxSound" to amplify my PC's overall volume, but I don't think that's the problem since I tried disabling the program and the error persists.

xmoarii No, sorry, I'm still having the same problem. If you're experiencing it too, it's probably a game issue.

  • wbpy46jctn65  What options do you see when you right-click the sound icon in the lower-right corner of hte screen?  Please list them or post a screenshot (you can use Windows key-shift-S to capture the list).  And if spatial sound is on, turn it off and restart.  If another sound option is listed as on, disable that too.

You can use the "troubleshoot sound problems" option if you like, but that mostly deals with outdated or missing drivers or other problems that are similarly obvious to Windows.  Since that could cover your issue, it's worth trying; I'm just saying it's not a cure-all.

If this doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Yes, in fact, when I asked an AI, the first thing it told me was to check that spatial sound was disabled, and yes, the option was always disabled. As for "dxdiag," I think I already attached the file.

  • wbpy46jctn65  Your dxdiag shows five sound devices: the built-in speakers on your monitor, your headphones, FXSound, an Altavoces system, and a Realtek audio driver for that system.  I know you disabled FXSound for testing purposes, but when testing, did you have the speakers and headphones connected?  If so, please unplug both and test the game through the monitor's speakers, still with FXSound disabled.  I just want to make sure that these devices or their drivers aren't interfering with each other.

The drivers for these devices are older, other than the one for your monitor's speakers (which use the Nvidia sound driver, which in turn gets updated alongside the graphics driver).  So it's possible that updating one or more of them would help.  But the first step is to test without their devices connected.

If you do need to update these drivers, click Windows key-X, select the Device Manager, expand the Audio category, and click on each device in turn and click Update in the menu.  Repeat for the Sound category.  Some devices may not have updates, which is fine; the point is to force Windows to check.  Restart your computer afterwards.

puzzlezaddict I just tried using the monitor speakers with FXSound, and the monitor speakers are extremely quiet without FXSound activated; I can't distinguish anything. However, when FXSound is activated, the problem persists. On the first floor (in all its rooms), the audio is loud and clear as normal. I had the Sim practice singing for the test, but when I sent the Sim to the second floor, the same problem occurred. The game sounds as if the camera is in another room, with that sound dampening as if there were a wall in front of the Sim. I tried updating the drivers, but they all tell me "I already have the best drivers installed."
