crash when exit game

This is a new one, at least for me.

 Whenever I save, return to main menu, then prompt to agree an exit,  there is always a white screen crash with windows popup "application stopped responding".  Its a recent problem,  which has only surfaced since the previous sims 4 update.  Its happening after every exit of the game, no matter the length of time played.
