The problem could still be software, for example a virus, but someone looking at the computer in-person will have a better chance of figuring that out. (You could still run a Malwarebytes custom scan if you wanted; let me know if you'd like instructions.) If this is a hardware issue, it's sometimes difficult to diagnose over the internet, and while I could keep trying, you'll probably save yourself a lot of time by letting a tech do a thorough diagnostic checkup.
