Crashing to desktop constantly, last attempt to fix it.

Hey 🙂

This is the first time I write a post so I hope I'm doing it correctly, but yeah I'm desperate. I got a new computer last year in July, and since then every time I play sims 4, my game crashes to desktop. Sometimes up to 6 times in a 1 hour gaming session. Ive tried everything to fix this. Ive checked that windows and my graphics driver where up to date, I've tried running the game in Direct X 9. Ive repaired, and reinstalled the game, reinstalled the EA app, checked for file corruption. Ive even made sure that my one drive isn't connected to my Game in any way.

So here I am crossing my fingers, and sending a little prayer out that someone can help me fix this. I love playing the game, and its devastating to constantly lose my game play unexpectedly. I try to save all the time, but its not fun fearing that I might have another crash 10 mins from now, or 30.

I don't have any mods installed.

I added a dxdiag text.

Have a wonderful day 🙂

  • Update.....

I went in my bios again, and made sure turbo Boost was completely disabled , and with a few days of game play testing, I can now say that I no longer have been experiencing desktop Crashes. So it appears to have been the fix.

After almost a year of experiencing the same crash over and over, I am extremely grateful that its no longer an issue. (crossing my fingers)

Thank you so much for the help 😊

  • MissFaylyn Thanks for the dxdiag. Most of the errors it lists are crashes of the graphics driver, so please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

You can use the newest driver Nvidia has released:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/245673/

If that doesn't help, look for a BIOS update for your motherboard. I can't be sure what model you have from the dxdiag, but you can find it in a few ways, including printed on the board itself. Google "[model name] drivers" and look for the support page from the manufacturer. Your current version is 1805.

If that doesn't help either, boot into BIOS and disable CPU Turbo Boost, which would be under Advanced settings and might be called something slightly different. Turbo should be in the name though.

It still crashing :( I did the changes last night, but this morning I went on to play the game again, and it crashed 3 times in a span of 20 mins or so.

    Update...................

I updated my Bios a while ago. It should be the newest version there is for my motherboard. I also disabled CPU turbo boost, it was called something else in my Bios. Its called intel turbo boost technology in mine, under the CPU power/performance.

The error I could find. I have 2. Ill paste them both

Ill test a new save after my meeting today...

The crash that happened, was in a new save with no mods, but just to be sure, ill double check later :)

Again thank you for the help. Really appreciate it. I'm not the best at fixing computer related things, but I try 😅

  • MissFaylyn Did you only update the BIOS, or did you also disable CPU Turbo Boost? (If you didn't see "CPU Turbo Boost" and disabled something that you believe is the same, please list it so I can double-check.) Please also test a new save, with your Mods folder removed if you use any mods or cc at all, just to be sure that nothing else is contributing to the problem.

If you get yet another crash, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day. Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash. If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here. If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • MissFaylyn A python37_x64.dll crash is typically related to CPU Turbo Boost (whatever it happens to be called), although this error can have other causes. So please boot back into BIOS and look for any other setting that has Turbo in the name and could conceivably be affecting the CPU. The thing is that the Intel Turbo Boost Technology setting may be only one—the board may have its own independent setting and include the Intel one because it's required for the platform. Most boards do specifically have a "CPU Turbo Boost" setting that, as far as I can tell, is something the manufacturers apply themselves, meaning it's probably not the standard Intel tech.

The problem for me is that it's difficult to find the exact BIOS settings for a particular board; even the manuals don't help because they don't always include updates to the firmware. And each board has its own settings, even those in the same class and from the same manufacturer. So since I can't see what you're looking at, and I can't find documentation that I can trust, I can't tell you whether that's the right or only setting, only that I suspect it may not be.

If you can't find any other setting, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Sims 4 and the EA App, as described in the solution of this thread (for a different issue, but the process is the same):

[CURRENT ISSUE] Sims 4 DLC shows as installed, won't load in-game | EA Forums - 11831673

This helps with most of the python37_x64 crashes that are not CPU turbo-related.

    Update.....
