Crashing/Sudden Game Closure since Updates

I've had this issue since the July Update/ Release of Lovestruck roughly, my game will sometimes behave for a few hours sometimes its minutes into game play but it will just close itself randomly, I currently have no mods or cc since I removed them all when I started having the issue in an attempt to solve it but I really just wanted to complete the reaper rewards and I've just uninstalled and reinstalled my game because of another issue where the event prompts then the task list just disappeared and that ended up being the only way to solve it but its returned me to the crashing issue today.

In the past with this issue I've played for hours with seemingly no issue, the crash happens randomly it doesn't matter if I am in build or live mode or a loading screen it will simply close down entirely. Today I played for maybe 2-3 hours before the crashing started and after this started I could not play for more than a minute or two before it crashed and it's very disheartening to lose the progress on my build since I tend to spend a lot of time on them.

I have the game graphics all set low now, as I've said I've only just uninstalled and reinstalled my game today, double checked all drivers are up to date, I've tried following all advice I can find but nothing seems to have work. I do play on laptop but it isn't overheating, I've made sure laptop mode us selected(not 100% sure what that does tho) and I checked the specs and I think they are all ok (as far as I can tell, I am not great with detailed tech stuff like specs it rattles my brain a bit).

DxDiag is included and if this does make any difference I do have an external hard drive the I keep plugged in mostly because I ran out of space on my internal drive.

Sorry if it turns out to be something slightly dumb like I said I'm not brilliant at tech stuff, I just want to be able to play this game esp since I've spent an absurd amount on packs and stuff in the past 10yrs I don't really use this laptop for much else and I don't normally have anything else running whilst I am playing sims if that also helps.

  • @deliriumdelightd  Thanks for the dxdiag, which makes the problem clear: Sims 4 doesn't work well in DirectX 9 mode on your laptop's family of processors and graphics chips.  The workaround is to force DirectX 11 mode.  Open your EA App game library, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and enter -dx11 in the command line box.

You may or may not need to use laptop mode here.  It's for low-end hardware, not laptops per se, and it's just disabling Advanced Rendering under another name.  So feel free to disable laptop mode, and if you like the results and performance is okay, keep it disabled.

  • Thank you so much! This seems to have worked out (I'll know for sure after playing for a while)
