create-a-sim can't click on anything

I haven't played the game in months but the other day I decided to catch up and bought 2 expansion packs and some kits. I installed them fine. When I go into create-a-sim I cannot change anything on the sim. I click on the hair, the face, the clothes and nothing happens. When I enter a lot and go to build mode I cannot place anything on the lot the items show up outside of the lots. I've removed mods, updated the patch and even repaired the game. Is my only solution to uninstall and re-install? I don't want to lose my lots and saves. ☹️ I've had this game since 2015.

Any help is appreciated thanks. also I cannot take a screenshot because it won't show the mouse click

  • @hotforbacon  If you have any files in ConfigOverride, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, please remove them.

If that doesn't help, did you remove all your mods?  If not, please do so now.

If that doesn't help either, please disable any apps you use that come with overlays: Steam, Discord, etc.  Disable the EA App in-game overlay as well, under Settings > Application.

As a side note, uninstalling shouldn't delete your saves or other user data.  That data is stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, while the game itself (what the EA App installs) should be elsewhere.  The game is removed during the uninstall process, but not typically the user folder.  Still, you can make a backup copy of this folder to be on the safe side.
