This is exactly what I have. Same popup message. I have worked on it for at least 15 hours. I have tried all these suggestions. Any new suggestions? This is driving me nuts. Thanks, Cheryl
@Cher151 Have you tried the suggestions linked in the accepted solution on page one?

If those don't help, please diable your antivirus entirely, at least long enough to test.
- 5 years ago@puzzlezaddict Yes, I tried option B, but I didn't quite understand about signing is as an administrator with option A. I thought I had read EA was going to do an update to fix this, since so many people are having problems? Do you know anything about that? Still not working at all.

Since the most recent update patch in November 2020 my sims 4 game will not start up. It has a pop up stating that the game is already running when it isn't.
I've tried repairing the game, restarting the PC, removing the mods folder, starting through administrator, nothing is working.

Something is blocking the game from accessing the Documents folder. Mostly it's an antivirus program.
Set exceptions in whatever antivirus app(s) you use for Origin.exe, OrigintClientService.exe, TS4.exe, and TS4_x64.exe.
If that doesn't help do the same in Windows Defender Controlled Folder Access

@Cher151 It's not about signing in as an administrator, it's about specifically running Origin and Sims 4 as an admin. This means right-clicking on an .exe or shortcut and choosing the "Run as administrator option"; it gives the application additional permissions.
When people talk about uninstalling and reinstalling the game, they mean removing the game files and redownloading them from Origin. As long as the base game and all your packs are listed as owned in your Origin game library, you'll be able to redownload them whenever you want.
EA has said it hopes to address the issue of Sims 4 crashing consistently in-game, which is affecting a number of people. I don't know of any plans to address the various reasons the game might not open in the first place, with or without a particular error. Most of the time, and maybe all the time, this is an issue on the user side, not the EA side, so it's up to the user to troubleshoot it.
