Delayed Actions

This doesn't happen all the time but it happens quite often

Basically, whenever I queue an action for my Sim to - for example grab a serving - he would go near it but he won't immediately do the action I told him to do. Instead, he just stands there for almost half or full hour before he does the action. And it just eats a lot of time my Sim could've done other stuff. 😕mileylol:

The problem started to happen just recently and all of my Sims seem to show the symptoms. I ignored it at first, but the next day I played again, the problem still persisted. As well as the the day after the next, so I got concerned.

I am having this problem too. I got Sims 4 on Christmas and began to notice a delay between their actions pretty much from the beginning. Has there been anything said about this from the Sims designers or anyone?

  • I am having the same problem and i just got the game off of origin! it is very frequent in my game. Im tired of pauseing and un pausing for 30sec in order for it to work.

I think these behaviours are built in game play, like the slow eating. It doesn't help with sims constantly walking past the house and repeatedly knocking on the door (sometimes the same one- 5 times a day!). All this causes lag even on my computer which is more than able to run this game. The social interactions are so strangely set up they seem to bring a lot of behaviours to a standstill or dropping them completely. For example in the Sims 2 if a Sim was on the way to using the toilet and the need changed from stand to sit it would happen without me even knowing about it. In this game they just stand there. It is totally frustrating when the player has set these things up so they are not late for work and when we return to them to find them standing doing nothing. The emotional states that change (confidant/energised et al) also do this. Emotions are tricky things for humans to understand trying to build them into AI that cant figure out what a door is is somewhat ambitious.

I am also having the same problem my sim will be in the middle of an action or about to start a new one and be paused there for almost 30 sim minutes. They will keep blinking and everything else will still be happening like cars driving by and people walking by but my sim will just be stuck and the sim time will still still be going. It takes simple actions very long to do for my sims and it's frustrating.

  • This has happened to me occasionally since the beginning. The Sim would (very infrequently) just stand there for a moment, but then it would quickly clear itself.

For example: If a Sim was walking towards the bedroom, they might freeze in the doorway, but after the amount of time it would have taken them to get to the bedroom, they would suddenly just "snap" to that location and then be fine.

This happens to my Sims all the time now. I cannot cancel the action from the queue when they freeze either.

  • Hey, I don't know if this will help anyone else but it certainly helped my game!

Check your sims (all sims in the household) inventories.

I noticed that one of my families experienced this lag while others didn't.

I built a smaller house, cleaned all my caches, downgraded the graphics and nothing worked.

Then when I was trying to transfer fruit from my sims inventory to the fridge, I noticed some serious lag. My main sim in the laggy household was an expert gardener and had racked up over 200 of each kind of crop you can grow.

I decided to cut all the crops she owned down to 10 and my game was like brand new!

If you have a lot of junk in your sims inventories, fridge, or anywhere else you store objects, try cleaning them out!
