- Platform: PC
- Which language are you playing the game in? English
- How often does the bug occur? Every time I load the game, I guess
- What is your current game version number? 1.109.185.1030 DX9
- What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them up to the current new kits
- Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I have no idea.
- What happens when the bug occurs? I don't have DX11. My game is still on DX9 after the most recent update. Unsure if this is a technical issue or because I'm on an Intel GPU, which I did read the blog post that we don't get DX11 by default yet.
- What do you expect to see? My game on DX11 by default.
- Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods: A few. They were disabled by the update but I updated and reenabled them after.
Posting here as requested/suggested by a friend, who found it odd that I'm not on DX11 by default after the recent update. I'm unsure if I have a tech issue or not, but anyway, my DXdiag is attached. 🙂

Just replying to myself, I fixed the issue! I guess it was a me being a tech idiot issue.
I went to my Nvidia control panel and changed my preferred graphics processor to "High-performance NVIDIA processor", restarted my laptop and now my game is on DX11.- atreya3311 months agoLegend

I looked for the option you mentioned and that updated my game to default DX11. Now I can see if this will indeed make a difference.

@espeon9466 @simgirl1010 @MapleSimmer Thanks so much for testing and providing this info. It's much appreciated.
@atreya33 @looloolooweez Could you try selecting the Nvidia GPU as the Preferred Graphics Processor in the Nvidia Control panel, as indicated above (posts 110 and 111)? The global setting should work, but if you don't want to use that, you could try applying it to Program settings, specifically to TS4_x64 and/or TS4_Launcher_x64. I'm not sure which one is necessary since I haven't tested.
@candiecoatediv I've merged your post into the master thread for DirectX 11-related feedback. Please try selecting the Nvidia GPU as the preferred graphics processor, as described above, and let us know whether it works.
@Gotta_Blasstttt If you'd like help troubleshooting this issue, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@puzzlezaddict @espeon9466 @MapleSimmer Thank you! That worked! I really appreciate your advice.
For any others reading this thread with the problem of the game not launching in DX11 with a dual GPU system — The user must specifically use the NVIDIA Control Panel to specify Manage 3D Settings > Global settings > High performance NVIDIA processor in order to make the game recognize this GPU and open in DX11 by default.
I previously used both the Windows settings (System > Display > Graphics) and the NVIDIA GeForce Experience app to manage my GPU for the game, so it may be possible that you also need to manage your settings there as well as in the NVIDIA Control Panel; I don't think that would be the case after changing global settings, but I'm not sure.
@puzzlezaddict Thank you also for the tip about the crash logs!
For any others reading this thread who are new to using dxdiag — The user interface for the DirectX Diagnostic Tool in Windows 11 can show you info about your GPU and what DirectX version your machine is running. However, if you do the extra step of "Save all information" and open the text resulting file, then scroll down towards the bottom of the document to a section called "Diagnostics" it can also show you if any related apps are crashing.

This option did the trick but only if I apply it to global settings. I already tried to set this option only for sims 4 yesterday and that didn't help. It needs to be the global one.
