Endless loading when saving

My game is refusing to let me save, as it puts me in an endless saving screen without ever actually saving the game. I don’t know if it’s related but I also noted it refuses to load the pictures of Sims in CAS and families in the households list. I have not updated to the latest patch yet because I heard everyone’s games broke. It does this with and without my mods and CC activated, so it’s a game issue for sure. Is there a fix for this? I keep losing progress and I just want to play the game. ☹️

@TasGreenwood  There could be an issue with your save, or just with the old Sims 4 folder.  Try copying the save to the new folder and see whether you can play it normally and save your progress.  If you can, great, you can add any other content you want to keep to the new folder and pick up where you left off.  Be sure to test again before playing normally if you have any mods or custom content, since those can also be a source of problems.

If your save doesn't work normally in the clean folder, try recovering a backup save:

  • @TasGreenwood  The usual first step would be to repair the game, but that would mean updating, which it sounds like you might not want to do.

Try playing in a clean user folder, just as a test.  Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can start a new save and save your progress.

If you can't, this may be caused by your antivirus software.  Please see this thread for details:

I was able to save on the test, so what does that mean for my usual game files?
