Entire household stuck, game gets stuck on loading screen on exit

My entire household got stuck in the middle of their actions. One was on the toilet, one in bed and one in a chair. Once their actions were finished, they kept sitting/lying where they were even after I had cancelled their actions. No matter where I tried to send them they stayed put as their needs went down. I tried resetsim, they were reset to a standing position but still wouldn't move or perform any actions. Tried teleporting them, same problem. Tried exiting the game, even restarting the computer, but every time I tried to exit or go to main menu, the game got stuck on loading screen and I had to shut it down via task manager (so I couldn't choose a different family or move them out). Every time I started the game again they were still stuck. Uninstalled and reinstalling the game now, hopefully it will work again but all my saves will be lost. Was expecting a game like this at full price to actually work.
