Game Continuously Freezes

The Sims 4 Continuously Freezes Laptop

Hello!

I'm reaching out here because EA support has been incredibly difficult to contact. My game, despite all of my mods being up to date and my game itself being repaired numerous times, will freeze at random times. It locks my entire laptop and has made the game unplayable at this point. What can I do to stop this? I want to play in my saves again.

  • @CHIIIVIIII  LiveKernelEvent 141 is a timeout of the graphics driver, a serious error that would explain all the issues you're seeing with Sims 4.  Why the game temporarily ran fine with no custom content present, I don't know; even bad cc shouldn't cause this kind of error.  Regardless, the next move is to clean-uninstall and reinstall the driver.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Use the newest driver Acer provides for your laptop, which you can find here:

    https://www.acer.com/ca-en/support/product-support/SP314-54N/downloads?suggest=Spin_SP314-54N;0

This driver is somewhat old, but it's simple enough to update to a newer driver from here, whereas installing a newer driver and then trying to roll back would necessitate another clean uninstall.  Interestingly, your laptop has a newer driver than this one currently installed.  It's possible that Acer provided the driver but didn't update the product page, or that you have a more generic Intel-provided driver installed.  Either way, try the driver above, and let me know how it goes.

If the game freezes with the newly-installed driver, you can check the Reliability Monitor again.  Another LiveKernelEvent 141 means it's time to try a different driver.  This is the newest one Intel provides for your laptop's processor and graphics chip (dated June 15):

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/196603/intel-core-i51035g1-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-60-ghz/downloads.html

You can try installing it and see how the game responds.  If you get an error when installing, please post a screenshot or write out the text.  Some laptops have software that blocks the installation of outside drivers, but I would hope Acer would allow an update here considering the company is not providing new drivers itself.

@CHIIIVIIII  Please post a new dxdiag.  Please also run the game one more time, with no added content, and take note of the time that it freezes.  Then look for a corresponding error in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to play Sims 4.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.  No error at all is also useful information.

I've attached the dxdiag. Even though my game froze twice (I had to put my laptop to sleep before waking it up to get the game running again), I did not receive an error for today. However, I know I only opened my laptop to continue working towards resolving this issue with my game yesterday and I did notice an error logged yesterday.

@puzzlezaddict You are a life-simulation saver. This worked. Thank you both for this solution and for being so patient while we worked to resolve this. You might not work for EA but you should because you were far more useful than their support team was. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
