Game crashes mostly on startup

Hello!

I've just got a new computer and have been trying to play the sims on. Everytime I try to open it, it crashes either on startup (like 70% of the time) or at some time within the first hour of playing. I've only gotten it to work once and I do not know what I did right that time to make it keep working. 

I've removed all my mods, done a clean boot,  reset the game to factory settings, and tried to repair the game but the ea app crashes everytime before it finishes downloading. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet, because my internet connection is terrible and it would take a massive amount of time, so I only want to do it as a last resort.

As far as I can see nothing needs updating, but the ea app has been being weird about updates as well so I can't be completely sure it isn't outdated. 

I don't know if it's the latest patch, but it might be my computer because I've been having other crashing issues in general. It didn't crash as much before the patch but I think I only played it like thrice on this computer before the latest patch. 

I really dopn't know what more to do know, everytime I think I find a solution it stops working the next time I try.
