Game crashing during loading screens. All mods taken out and still continues.

I'm able to load into my save but whenever i attempt to travel anywhere or load into cas the game just crashes on the loading screen. Originally i had quite a few mods so i started going through them assuming that was the issue, i got rid of all my script mods cause those are usually the ones that bug the game out but the issue persisted. I tried repairing the game and it didn't help so i then removed all of my mods and the issue is still happening. I then tried to repair it again and it still won't work. I'm not sure what to do now

I finally figured out why my game was crashing.

After the clean uninstall and reinstalling the game was working perfectly fine, I put my mods back in and everything and it was running perfectly. Until i turned on my gshade.. and it started crashing during the loading screens again. When i took it off it was fine. Very frustrating, I've never had an issue with the gshade before and I've had it for years now so i didn't even cross my mind. There was an update but even after i updated the gshade is carried on crashing so im not sure whats up with that but i'm just not gonna be playing with it from now on or until i can figure out how to get it working again.

Thank you for trying to help me though!

  • @meowitzteef  If you have any files in ConfigOverride, in the same Sims 4 folder, please remove them.

Otherwise, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and try out some loading screens.

If you get another crash, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

There was nothing in the config overdrive folder so i did what you told me to do and took the entire sims 4 folder out. When i opened the game everything was fine but it crashed when i tried first moving in with the new sim. It actually seemed to mess with the EA app as well? cause that also crashed which it hadn't done before.

And i think i did the dxdiag thing properly, it should be attached.

@meowitzteef  Your dxdiag lists two serious crashes of the graphics driver, so please clean-uninstall and reinstall the driver, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

You can get a fresh copy of the newest Nvidia driver here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

If this doesn't help, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash, specifically after reinstalling the driver.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

@meowitzteef  This error is a heap corruption, which can point to a RAM issue but has other causes as well.  Have you applied any overclocks to your system, or used the built-in Nvidia overclocking tool?  If so, please revert all these settings so your hardware is running at stock speeds.

If that doesn't help, it's worth testing your RAM.  The easy way would be to pull half the modules, so you're running with 16 GB rather than 32, and then swap them out once you see the results.  It's not definitive but has the advantage of being quick and simple.

The more thorough way is to run diagnostics.  The gold standard is MemTest86, testing each module separately and in at least two different slots on the motherboard.

    https://www.memtest86.com/index.html

    https://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/memtest86_memory_guide/

Since this is time-consuming, you can use Microsoft's built-in memory diagnostics first if you like:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/technet-magazine/ff700221(v=msdn.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

I wouldn't consider a pass from this tool to be even close to definitive, but if it does flag an error, that's probably accurate.

Finally, I'd like to know what RAM you're using, by product number.  If you don't have that handy, you can find it on the modules themselves.

The windows diagnostic check didn't find any issues. I've never heard of the overclocking thing before so i haven't put that on myself, at least not intentionally, i still checked to see if i have it on and it doesn't look like i do.

I just took out half the RAM and then switched it and both times it still crashed. I don't have a spare USB around to do the other thing but i'll look into getting one and trying that out.

I think think the product number on the RAM that you're asking for is either 224502929981574 or CMH16GX4M2Z3200C16. I wasn't exactly sure which set of numbers was the product number so i've just put both of them here.

I'll try switch the RAM around again and maybe even try them one by one and see if i can figure out if any don't crash or if they all have this issue.

@meowitzteef  The memory should be fine given it's from Corsair, but yes, it would still be good to test the modules one at a time.  The best practice is to test each separately in at least two motherboard slots, which is tedious, but you can of course use the computer while doing so.

It's also worth running a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If it takes a while to find a USB and you want to try something else in the interim, here's how to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Sims 4:
