Game keeps crashing and other issues

Hello,

I have experienced several issues in The Sims 4 on PC over the last few days, which I had not experienced before this time. My game keeps crashing while in Live Mode for no clear reason. Additionally, load times when starting the game seem to have increased significantly from (roughly) 30 seconds up to nearly 2 minutes, and finally I am unable to access the Gallery as it is stuck in an infinite 'connecting' cycle.

I have tried a number of fixes suggested on other crash-related reports including deleting game cache, reinstalling the game and playing with no dlc or mods/cc plus a fresh game folder in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, as well as updating drivers (old audio drivers being the cause of game crashes on my PC a few years ago), but to no avail as the game crashes and other issues still persist.

I have attached the latest crash and exception files (via Google Drive - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1blR-ZuWroQ9MnWMOU0ci1ImfbuuyG9I4?usp=drive_link - as it will not let me attach them here for some reason) as well as a fresh dxdiag from my PC. Any help with these issues would be much appreciated!

Many thanks for the reply. It seems that this was actually a driver issue; I had updated an audio driver a few days prior and, after posting about this, I experienced crashes in other games as well (plus Sims 4 without mods on a fresh save). I had an almost identical problem a few years ago so my first thought was to undo this driver update by going to a system restore point from beforehand - this seems to have fixed the crashing issues thankfully. The long loads I experienced (which I assume were also caused by this) are also are now fixed.

The gallery issue is also not occurring now, which I can assume is thanks to the patch as you mentioned.

  • @Adaaaam58  I can't do anything with the lastcrash (as far as I know, only Maxis can read them), but the lastexception mentions a posture/animation error and giving an infant or toddler a bath.  Does that have anything to do with the crashes?  LEs can be associated with crashes or not.

This particular LE is also from a modded game.  I understand you removed your mods, but perhaps you did some testing with them present, so please let me know if you get an LE with no mods or custom content present.  The lastcrash is from a modded game as well.

Another important question is whether these crashes happen in a new save.  I'm not sure from your post whether you tested a new save in the clean user folder or copied over your existing one.  The Sims 4 crashes listed in your dxdiag are generic enough to be from almost anything—mods, game bugs, a graphics driver issue, a software conflict—so it's important to narrow things down.

Finally, please let me know how the game behaves after today's update; all the crashes in your dxdiag are from the previous patch level.  That is particularly true for the Gallery issue—the inability to connect was reported a number of times over the past couple days but appears to have cleared up as of around patch time.

@Adaaaam58  That's helpful to know.  Do you know which audio driver it was?  Your dxdiag lists three, although one is from 2021 and therefore probably not a newly-installed version.

@puzzlezaddict I believe it was the Realtek audio driver, which I think was the same one which has caused me issues in the past.
