Game Lags Massively, Unplayable - Close To Giving Up Playing - Please Help!

Hi

First off, thanks for reading. I can honestly say that I think this is my last shot at trying to fix whatever the heck is wrong with my game. So, here goes....

(Should probably add that I play on PC, Windows 10, no game mods, no expansions packs just the good ol' base game. I feel like my hardware is up to running the game as it has done so in the past and I run all my other games on high settings with no problem)

I have had the game for a few years now. As of around a year ago it ran perfectly, nice and smooth and I never had any trouble with it. Ran virtually most things on high settings etc and fine. I've never used any mods or expansion packs, just the base game (PC). Then randomly I was playing around 6 months ago and it just stopped working like it used to. It runs, but the lag I'm experiencing is making it virtually unplayable. It must be around 5fps, just so jumpy. I have tried clearing the Origin cache, I have completely deleted and re-installed the game, updated my windows OS. I feel like being as I have re-installed and it still isn't working it is likely an issue with my PC itself but I do not have the knowledge to delve deeper into the problem without guidance.

My DxDiag should be on this post *crosses fingers* so I would really appreciate it if someone could take a look and help me out as I really don't want to give up playing this game as I love it so much!

Thanks for reading and for any replies 🙂

  • @SecretAquarian Your specs are def. good enough to run this game on high settings.

Your graphics drivers are a bit dated though so could you try if you see any difference if you update them ?
  • Hi 🙂

Thank you for the suggestion. Is there a certain way to go about doing this? I tried a way which I googled (system information, found the graphics card and right clicked to check for updates) but it said there wasn't any updates.

Sorry if this is a noob question.

  • Hi

Reading your dxdiag I see that you PC is fine, it's slightly better than mine and I play smoothly at 1080p and mostly top settings, so the problem is elsewhere, also, your card's driver is exactly the same as mine, so that souldn't be a problem, and updating it won't do much good, since your graphics card is not new, using a newer driver won't do anything, depending on the version might even worsen gaming performance, update only as a last resort.

I have this tip: boot the game, on the options menu look for every online feature you can find and turn it off, I'm going through some troubles of my own now so I can't open and tell you exactly what options to turn off, but they should be fairly obvious, it's anything that would require an internet connection, just turn all that off, save, quit, boot again. The reasoning is that the game lags terribly when it's loading online stuff, god knows why, usually it disappears after a minute or so on pause, that is, if you're in-game and not on the title screen or something, but not always, sometimes it hangs for a long time and you have to reload the whole game, but, if it persists, it may require someone with more expertise than me, this is as far as I know about unbearable lag.

  • Ok so I've downloaded GeForce driver updates and they're all up to date now. But now the game won't even open up. I'm tempted just to go back to Sims 3 instead haha

This DXDIAG indicates that this computer has got quite well known Live Kernel Event Error 141
    Probable reasons
    1. There might be a conflict between certain drivers within the Windows 10 system, so you should start the troubleshooting process by disconnecting the peripherals. Do that and check if the issue persists. Afterward, you can reconnect your external devices, but when you do so also reinstall any associated drivers from scratch – if needed, go to Device Manager first and uninstall these drivers (press Win+X hotkeys, click on Device Manager and select the drivers that must be uninstalled).
    2. Software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you use a process that’s not compatible with the Windows 10 OS.

    3. If your system is not running on the latest available updates, you might receive the ‘Live kernel event 141 error. So, check and apply the updates that might be waiting for your approval in the background. Check if your Windows is up to date

    I don't work for EA
  • I'll certainly work my way through those things when I have the time to, thank you for trying to help!

I'll load up Origin and click to play sims and a white screen will load up as if it's trying to open it but then it just goes back to the origin loader. My PC doesn't freeze it just doesn't start up the game

Before you start fighting errors in the Windows system, move The Sims4 folder from Documents to the desktop and try to start the game. If the game starts it will mean that the reason for this error is in the game folder. If the game doesn't start, it means that either Windows or a graphics card is to blame.

@SecretAquarian Could you try deleting the option(.ini) file ? It's found in documents.

You'll need to redo all the settings (except what's saved on the save itself).
