I was able to solve the issue by uninstalling the game on Steam, deleting the folder from my documents, and reinstalling. Unfortunate for us players who have metered internet connections, but it did work.
@SuperblySim Glad to hear the game is working now.
@valeriacor (and @SuperblySim if you run into the issue again) Does the game work if you launch it while your computer is offline? Sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.
