Game taking long to load on external hard drive

Hello recently I decided to get an external hard drive to store sims 4 so I can have extra space on my pc. I’ve already set everything up well and has changed my game location in origin to be stored on my hard drive but I have noticed that my game takes so long to not only get into the first screen but even the main menu.
I do have a large mods folder but I was wondering is this normal for all players who play on an external hard drive and how long is the appropriate amount of time to go into the main menu and into cas.

Running any game from an external drive is generally much slower than loading from an internal one, as most laptops and PCs have moved towards utilizing SSDs or M.2 type storage.

If you absolutely must use an external drive I would recommend looking into ones with a USB type C connection (assuming your PC has the port) along with an M.2 or SSD drive enclosure.
