Gameplay Freeze
My sims 4 keeps crashing on load and then freezes after only about 5 minutes or less of gameplay causing me to have to hard restart my entire laptop. I have no mods.
@jessmorrow I'm not sure what you're asking. There's no reason you need to uninstall the game itself, and uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics card driver wouldn't touch Sims 4's program files or your saved game data. Can you play a new save in the new Sims 4 folder? If the game runs well with a new Sims 4 user data folder in place (the one in Documents\Electronic Arts) now, then you can skip the uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver for now. I thought the game was still crashing, which is why I suggested replacing the driver.
Your save files are normally located in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves. When you moved your Sims 4 folder, you moved your existing saves along with it. But you can put them back and test now that the new folder works. It's a good idea to copy each save file, rather than dragging and dropping it—that way, you have a backup copy if you need it. You can right-click on any of the saves and select Copy, then right-click in the saves folder inside your new Sims 4 folder and select Paste.
If the new saves work but the old ones don't, try loading an old save and playing with a different household instead. You'd only need to do this for a few sim-hours, then you could save, quit, reload, and go back to your old family.
If any of this doesn't work, please describe exactly what happens, and what you're trying to do when it happens. Please also let me know whether you're using a new save or an old one.
So I can’t even launch the game at all now, it won’t even load from the new shortcut. Was working yesterday
@jessmorrow Do you have OneDrive set to automatically sync the contents of Documents? If so, please disable that. Here's how:
Make a backup copy of your Sims 4 folder inside Documents\Electronic Arts first, and move it elsewhere, so you can get it back later without dealing with OneDrive.
If this is not the issue, please let me know what you've added to the new Sims 4 folder you let the game create so far. Is it still the clean game folder, plus a new save? Did you add any old saves, or any mods or custom content?
The new clean file that was previously working, is now freezing and freezing my entire computer again.
i don’t know how to uninstall and re install and origin app and website won’t load or connect anymore
@jessmorrow What do you mean, Origin won't connect anymore? Try clearing its cache:
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
If that doesn't help, please post a screenshot of what Origin looks like and any error messages you get.
For the clean Sims 4 folder, did you ever put anything back into it, or did you simply play the new save forward? If you added something to the clean folder and now you're getting freezing, then it's likely that whatever you added is the problem.
Please also let me know about OneDrive.
I was just playing a clean game, I hadn’t got around to moving any saves back.
origin tells me it can’t connect, I refresh and close and get the same error message.
@jessmorrow Please try clearing Origin's cache; instructions for how to do so are linked in my previous post.
Please also tell me whether OneDrive is syncing your Documents folder or not.
