Gaming laptop for playing Sims 4 Uk

I'm wanting to buy a new laptop after having my old one for over 10+ years (put it this way it's hanging on by a thread on windows 7) 🥴 the trouble is I don't have a single clue about the newer laptops, I'm just looking for a good one that runs pretty well, with preferably good graphics. I will be playing the Sims 4 on it more or less all the time.

I've had a look around at gaming laptops but it's fuzzed my head as the reviews have both good and bad on them, I've looked on these questions and seen the gigabyte laptop and it's on offer ATM for about 899, which wouldn't be out of price range, but someone said theirs didn't work properly at all. If anyone could please help and dumb it down so a simpleton like me can understand I'd greatly appreciate it 😂🙏

  • @GingerxGirl  Reviews are always difficult to parse because some buyers get a faulty units.  That's what warranties are for, and the fact that a laptop is immediately broken doesn't have any relationship with how working units perform.  The important details in a review are about how the laptop functions when it's running: heat, noise, how the screen looks, that kind of thing.

At any rate, the most important component of a gaming laptop is the graphics card.  Since the GPU is also the most expensive component, the other hardware will be able to keep up—nobody wants to spend a lot of money on an expensive GPU only to have it bottlenecked by a cheap processor.  So you can ignore most of the other details.

For the graphics card itself, an Nvidia RTX 3050 is sufficient to run Sims 4, all current packs included, on ultra graphics settings.  The next step up would be the newer RTX 4050, with the older (but still new enough) 3060 being a bit faster.  A 4060 or 3070 would be significant overkill for the game.  Avoid the significantly slower RTX 2050.  AMD GPUs are less common, but an RX 6600M or higher (6650, 7600) should be more than good enough.  I would strongly recommend avoiding Intel Arc cards until Intel works out all the problems, which hasn't happened yet.

The other details that matter are having 16 GB RAM and 500 GB or more storage.  But if you find otherwise the perfect laptop with only 8 GB RAM, and an upgrade would be expensive, consider installing more memory yourself.  RAM is cheap and easy to add to a gaming laptop.  If you're not comfortable doing it on your own, you might have a friend who could do it for the price of lunch or help moving their couch.

If you want specific suggestions, let me know your budget and any other details that matter, for example screen size.  If you'd rather do your own search, you can link the options you find for a second opinion.  And if you have more questions in general, please feel free to ask.

    thankyou so much!! ☺️

This is jammed full of info, I will be honest I will have to research some of this stuff just to understand it better 😅

I think as far as upgrading a laptop myself that would be completely out of question 😂 I want one that has everything I already need

If you wouldn't mind giving suggestions for a gaming laptop I'd greatly appreciate it, for budget wise I would prefer not to go into the £1,000.00 areas (although those laptops do look amazing) there have been a few around the 800 mark (so that's sort of my area of budget) that are on sale in the UK ATM which I wouldn't mind going for (especially if it's a good laptop) screen size wise I'm not sure the 17" look incredible but I think I'd be just as happy with maybe 15"/16". If you were going to get one personally which would you go with? (Just for an idea of what I'd be looking out for)

Again thank you for all your help! 😊☺️

@GingerxGirl  Of the gaming laptops around £800 currently available, and for running Sims 4 and not more powerful games, I would probably go with one of these:

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-tuf-gaming-a15-nvidia-rtx-4050-16gb-15.6-fhd-144hz-amd-r5-7535hs-gamin-lap-asu-01713.html

    https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/product.aspx?id=876Z7EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

They're well-built models overall, lacking in frills but also without the quality concerns of some laptops in this price range.  Their graphics card is one tier up from what runs Sims 4 on ultra graphics settings, they have 16 GB RAM and plenty of storage, and the AMD processor will run a little cooler than the Intel equivalent.  The screens are reasonably good for this price range, not perfect but fine for gaming.  They also run quiet for a gaming laptop, the Asus more than the HP.  Here's a detailed review of the Asus if you're interested:

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-TUF-Gaming-A15-laptop-review-A-budget-gamer-with-an-RTX-4050-and-a-144-Hz-screen.725720.0.html

Or if that's too much info, click ctrl-F, search for Verdict, and scroll down a bit to find a grade in each category.

From what I can see, this site didn't review this model Victus, so I pieced together the info from other sites.

These two have the next-faster RTX 4060 graphics card, which would make them a better choice for more demanding games, but the speed isn't important for Sims 4.  Still, if you're thinking about running other games at some point, you might appreciate the extra power.

    https://www.currys.co.uk/products/gigabyte-g5-kf-15.6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-rtx-4060-512-gb-ssd-10258060.html

They do have downsides relative to the others though.  The Gigabyte model's screen is not great, and the MSI is noisy.  Here are reviews from the same site:

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-G5-KF-review-Gaming-laptop-with-RTX-4060-for-969-euros.761048.0.html

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-Cyborg-15-A12VF-review-Gaming-laptop-with-low-power-RTX-4060.707610.0.html

    There's a 15" Victus with an RTX 4060 available for £900:

This is really about your priorities: size, weight, screen quality, battery life (although you should always play with the laptop plugged in), whatever matters most.  All gaming laptops in this range have downsides; it's just a matter of finding one whose downsides you don't particularly care about.

Hello! I've come across your conversation and you're asking all the questions I also need answers to! I'm after a laptop for playing Sims 4 with all the expansion packs. I was wondering which laptop you went with in the end and would you recommend it? Thank you 🤎 #Sims4 #Laptop #Gaming #Recommendation
