getting a new laptop, is there a way to transfer mods folder and saves

i am getting a new laptop soon and would like to play the sims on it, i have quite a lot of custom content that i really love and will probably not be able to find again, is there a way to transfer my mods folder between laptops?

i am also worried about my saves, i have a current household and a 100 baby save file aswell will i lose these on my new laptop? i use origin to play sims but i think saves are in my folders? i’m not really sure so any advice would be much appreciated xx

  • If you're on a PC, you should be able to copy the entire folder: "Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4" over to the new PC. It'll be quite large but it'll contain your saves, mods, library, everything. You can't copy the game itself, you'll have to install it normally yourself, but just run it once, exit, and place those files over the new ones and everything should be back.

Never tried it myself but it should work. You'll have to reset the graphic settings I think.

@lily_wray330 You could use an external USB drive, a thumb drive, or cloud storage. Copy the files from your old laptop to whatever storage device you choose and then transfer them from storage to your new laptop. For the game itself and all of your expansion packs just log into your Origin account from your new laptop and download your content from there.

It's very important, like @Psychotps said, to run Sims 4 on your new laptop at least one time before you transfer your files over, otherwise the game might not properly recognize the folders and you'll be troubleshooting why your mods and CC do not appear in your game.

@lily_wray330 There are other options but a USB thumb drive would probably be the easiest for you to use. You'll likely have many other files and folders you'll want to transfer from your old laptop to your new laptop and a thumb drive would work great for this as well as you can use them over and over again. You can get one very cheap, something like a 64 GB Thumb Drive is less than $10 USD on sites like Amazon or you can find them in most stores. Some other options for transferring files would be using cloud storage (i.e. OneDrive) or you could just burn the files to a CD.
