Go to festival during social event?

Hi all, Silly question probably, but I don't get how it works. Sometimes other sims would invite me to a festival by phone. When I agree they come over to my house and a social event begins. Then ...

Moving this to general forum.

What I believe happen is that another Sim initialed a social event making the festival one obsolete.

Since OP never got back to me, I can't verify though
