grey screen in CAS

hi, im having problems with my sims 4 game.

i opened my game today after updating it from the new update (horses) and every time i tried to start a new game, my game has frozen on a grey screen. i've updated my computer, restarted it, and tried to restart the game and nothing has worked. the weird part is, i can load previous households without a problem, but when i try to start a new game, the grey screen appears.

if this helps, i use gshade, mods, and a custom loading screen (its not grey, and it does not stop working when i loaded the game/in my previous households.)

  • @mimzyy  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If this works, you can move your saves and anything else you'd like to keep to the new Sims 4 folder.  But test your mods and custom content first, in case one or more of these files are the problem.  Leave your saves for last, after you've tested everything else.

If you see the same issue even before adding any content to the new folder, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

when i try moving the folder, a pop up comes up with 'interrupted action' and it tells me that there is a document stopping me from moving the sims 4 folder onto my desktop, it's the 'ConnectionStatus' one?

it gives me the option to skip, should i?

  • @mimzyy  Try pausing OneDrive syncing first; right-click the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen to see the option.  And make sure you don't already have a Sims 4 folder on your desktop.  If you do, rename it.

If that doesn't help, please post a screenshot of the error.

i did that, then i transferred my saves to my desktop. i opened the game when it didnt have my saves and the same screen appears.

below is an attachment of what it looks like when i open CAS.

  • @mimzyy  Please move the entire Sims 4 folder, not just the saves folder, to your desktop, if you haven't already, and test again.

If you still get a gray screen even with a clean folder, please post a dxdiag.  If the gray screen is gone, that means the problem is something else in your old folder, probably a mod or custom content item.
